PIO Gusher
So this morning when DH did my shot, as he was pulling out the needle, it started to gush blood, like ALOT of it. That has never happened before. It was ALL over the bathroom towel, all down my leg, got on our rug and even squirted on the vanity. Thats bizarre, right? It did stop shortly after we applied pressure but we were both kind of weirded out.
Has this ever happened to anyone else?
And while we're on teh subject, does anyone else experience leakage from time to time? Like somedays I'll do my heparin shot and I'll take the needle out and nothing, other days, it bleeds, other days, I feel like some of the med seeps back out..........

Re: PIO Gusher
I had that leaking problem with the pio. It was like there just wasn't enough room and it would just seep out.
As for you bleed experience this am. Is it possible he hit a little capilary? Is he drawing back after he inserts the needle?

Re: PIO Gusher
Happened a majority of the time for me. It is very normal! Just make sure he is pulling back before he injects to make sure he isnt hitting a vein! I am sure he didnt, there are all tiny blood vessels all over!

Re: PIO Gusher
Another thing.... remember heparin is a blood thinner so you may bleed easier!!

Re: PIO Gusher
For me the PIO was the only shot that didn't bleed. The Lupron shot would bleed a few times a week and the Menopur/Bravelle shot bled all the time. I bruise easily so I bruised very badly from all of them, leaving little space for the next shot. I still have soreness in my hip region from the PIO and I haven't had a shot since October! My friend gave me Hello Kitty and Pirates band-aids so at least I had a little smile when there was bleeding!

Re: PIO Gusher
Over our gazillion tries we tried to figure out what made a PIO bleeder and what did not. We never knew when we would get a bleeder. Just chance. And sometimes we would get a real gusher like you described. It totally freaked me out too.
But, what I guess I am saying is that it happens. You're okay. Oh and seepage happens too.

Re: PIO Gusher
I have similar issues...sometimes I bleed and sometimes not. I always bleed when I'm wearing "nice" clothes as opposed to an old Tshirt.
JSquare - I had drinks* with my personal IVF role model on Wed. I was telling her about how I still had knots in my booty from the PIO, months after my first IVF. I'm fairly active (running, soccer, etc) and I could feel the hard knots when I ran--very uncomfortable and sort of upsetting. Now, there were issues with how I was "taught" to give them, so that is one thing (now we know how for real). The other, though, is that her nurse (now my nurse - yay!) recommended heat from hot water bottle and deep massage on both sides for ~10 minutes after every shot. I was sort of rubbing for a minute but her nurse was adamant about the 10 minute thing. My friend didn't have knots after 10 weeks of shots, so I guess it's good advice. We're going to try it this time. I get booty massages! Whee!

Re: PIO Gusher
You really need to pull back on the syringe before you inject. The meds should be eithe administered intramuscularly or i the subcutaneous fat(depending on the med). The should never me given intravenously. It's OK.... now you know.
Good luck on your upcoming U/S.

Re: PIO Gusher
You hit a blood vessel. I don't pull back anymore because it's too hard to pull back since I do the shots myself now. I feel like hitting a blood vessle is just so rare so I don't worry about it. But, you really are supposed to pull back so if you don't want the gushers that might cut down on it.

Re: PIO Gusher
I had one good bleeder, but I should have known it was going to happen, because I saw some blood back up into the syringe. But all was ok after a little pressure to the booty. When I do any of my shots, after I insert the meds I wait 5 seconds or so, and then pull the needle out. It gives the meds time to soak in a bit. And I have never gotten any leakage.

Re: PIO Gusher
I bleed on one side, not the other. DH always pulls back to check but I still bleed, even if there is no blood in the beginning. I also leak quite often. The nurse told me not to worry about that.

I always worried about those, but I've never had one!
I start PIO again later this week, so I'll let you know!
I'm going to run out and get some "cool bandaids" too!!
