Default Menopur vs. Repronex

So I got my meds today, starting Lupron on saturday.......DH says he's hiding in a cabin up in the woods for a few weeks...........Comedian, right?

My question is that I've always done the Follistim/Menopur combination for my Stims but this time, my pharmacy sent me Repronex instead.......they said the Menopur was on back order.

What's the difference? Is this something minor or should I tell my RE?

I would mention it to your RE, but they are the same meds, just a different pharm company I believe!

I will have everything crossed for you!

Actually, they are the same meds, same mfr, but the menopur is the "newer" version designed to mix with bravelle and supposedly with fewer nasty s/e when injected sq (apparently, many people have the bites/swelling on their body from the repronex.

I don't remember much from my 1st IVF cycle, but I do remember that I hated, hated, hated Repronex! I called it the Devil's potion. I got horrible red blotches at every injection site, and they were pretty d@mn painful. That being said, I was doing the shots sub-q, and some people say the side effects aren't as bad if you do the shot IM.

If it were me, I'd press the pharmacy to give me what was prescribed. You may not have any kind of reaction, but I feel like when you pay as much as we do, you should get exactly what your doctor says you need!!!

I think my RE told me that menopur has a higher ratio of LH or soemthing and was supposed to be better for older patinets (ie me!). I would def check with your RE

Renee-
I don't have any experience with menopur but did use repronex on my last cycle. I just wanted to let you know that I didn't have any problems with it. However I agree with others that it may be best to call your RE and see what they think. Good luck!

Default Re: Menopur vs. Repronex

I put the call in this morning.

I do have 8 vials of Menopur left from past cycles but I think I usually have used 9 (1 vial for 9 days of stimming). I'm not sure mixing would be the best option.

You know, as sick as this is, I always look for that 'sign'! Even after all of my disappointments, I still try to find that one 'sign' that makes me think 'ok, THIS is the change thats going to do the trick for me!" And I thought when they sent me the Repronex that was it! But now I'm nervous............I'm NOT looking forward to walking around with my bloated, vibrating ovaries as it is, let alone with WELTS all over my stomach! UGH! And after transfer, I start Heparin shots sub-q twice a day.........my stomach is STILL messed up from my last 2 cycles, I'm not sure the brusing will EVER go away!

OK OK, POSITIVE THOUGHTS!!!!!!!!! I'll let you know what she says..........just for curiosity purposes...lol.

hang in there . . . it is so frustrating. I had an allergic reaction to the hcg last cy . . . I had terrible welts on my stomach from the 3 booster shots for weeks (I think they only went away when I had to go on prednisone) so I understand your concern. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones who doesn't have a reaction! Also, talk to your dr about mixing - that might give you the best of both worlds.

Renee - since you have the vials of menopur, and your RE said it is the same thing, if you have issues with the Repronex, you can always switch back to the menopur.
