Just out of curiosity....
When we do IVF, we are probably going to end up doing donor eggs. On an added note to Heather's post considering these factors how many embies do you think the RE would want to transfer?
I am almost 36. (but probably doing donor eggs)
I got pg 3 out of 4 times w/ IUI, even when I only had 1 follie, the only time it didn't work the S/A was low numbers and not good quality.
I am around 4'11" and 92-96 lbs usually. Not that it makes a difference but my RE is very concerned w/ multiples, partially b/c of my size.
So.....any thoughts? This comes from a conversation dh and I had about how many we'd want to transfer..he's terrified of multiples he has first hand experience. Twins and triplets at the family dinners AND we watch Jon and Kate plus 8. I watch, he cringes! lol

Re: Just out of curiosity....
Most REs would recommend 2, but if you're not comfortable with that you could just transfer one if you want. It's your call.

Re: Just out of curiosity....
I think you need to feel comfortable with the idea of having as many children as the # of embryos you transfer. I didn't give the idea of triplets any thought at all when we did our DEFET and transferred 3 thawed embies. If you're very against multiples, perhaps transferring just 1 embryo is right for you (especially since you've had pregnancies in the past).
Good luck in whatever you decide.
PS - having multiples really isn't that bad... it's the best thing that ever happened to me.

Re: Just out of curiosity....
One. I say go with one. You have been pregnant in the past and it appears that egg quality is/was probably your problem. I would be very concerned with being able to carry healthy twins(+) to term. And then you'll have frozen embies for the next baby(ies).
JMO.
Good luck!

Re: Just out of curiosity....
I was never too afraid of multiples in the past it's kind of an exciting thought to me. Except last year a girl I know pretty well got pg w/ twins (no IF treatment) She was doing great, had no problems at all. But she ended up delivering her daughter, then 5 days later her son 16 wks early! Lots of scares in the NICU after that of course. So that's what kinda scared me, and terrified my husband. He is not a guy that worries alot, but he has a fear of losing me as well as another baby.
I do have one more question....do you think that I'd have a better chance of a sticky emby considering my pg rate w/ IUI's only? Does that even make a difference? And I do know there's no guarantee, I'm just wondering if that would make it more likely..especially if we were using healthy donor eggs.
Thanks ladies so much for your replies, I do appreciate it very much!
Thanks everyone for your resonses! I'm sure my husband would only want to transfer one, but taking age and finances (completely out of pocket)

Re: Just out of curiosity....
Ok, I hit enter too early. I mean taking age and finances into consideration, I don't want to be over cautious....but still want to be realistic about the possibility of multiples.

Re: Just out of curiosity....
W/ IVF #1 we put 2 emby's back in me & they both stuck (day 3 transfers). Now we're looking at doing IVF #2 & are really thinking of only transferring 1 (day 5). A friend of ours got PG very easy, but miscarried (5 or 6 miscarriages). They did IVF w/ donor eggs & they put 3 in.....they all stuck & now she's blessed w/ trips & is VERY happy she did it. It is scary when you think of the cost of it all, but so worth it. Good luck w/ what ever you decide!!

Re: Just out of curiosity....
Ang...I say txer one the first time. You have a great pregnancy rate with the IUIs and you will be using donor eggs. Talk with the RE and take everything into consideration.
If they are great looking I would personally only txer one if you are that small framed.
and I cant wait to follow your cycle!!

Re: Just out of curiosity....
My RE strictly goes by the age of the donor for his recommendation. in my case, my embryo donors were 35, and I am 30. So, he recommended 3 for me because he would recommend 3 for any 35 year old. Of course, it's always up to you! I would think that if you had a young donor he would recommend two, but every RE is different.

Re: Just out of curiosity....
My RE told us that there is more success with putting 2 in than 1...that might sound like a really stupid comment but they find that 1 just doesn't stick very well when transferring just 1.
Good luck in your decision!! We put 2 in and got 2...and as non-famous as it is to have twins these days, DH is still freaking out about it.

Yes, I do think you have a better chance of a sticky embie considering your PG rate. I would be very surprised if it took you more than one transfer with donor eggs to be PG. Although, you are right, there is no guarantee and I do understand the stress of age and finances so I understand that you want to maximize your chances of success! Just remember that FETs are not that expensive.
Also, I think your RE will have some ideas of what he thinks is appropriate at the time of your transfer. There are so many variables, even donor eggs can sometimes have issues so you just never know what he's/she's going to suggest.
Good luck!

Re: Just out of curiosity....
I am small also 5'1". Due to my size, my RE strongly recommended only 1. We ended pushing for 2, transferring 2, and getting a BFN. This time I will definitely transfer 2. And hopefully this time we will get lucky.

Re: Just out of curiosity....
Thank you so much ladies....I'm still torn, but of course we have a while before we do IVF, so plenty of time to discuss all the pros/cons w/ the RE. You made some very valid points. It's crazy, it took forever to get pg and when we did, we just kept w/ that protocol for the next treatment cycles and it worked well. Now I have no trouble getting pg w/ IUI. I broke down and begged dh to agree to finding a different dr to do another IUI (RE won't do any more) but he said it's silly to waste money on what would probably be another loss, plus the emotional impact. Common sense tells me he's right, but I'm very desperate. All I can hear is the sound of my own clock ticking....
I'm glad you ladies let me hang out here......I want to gather all the info I can before we start. Thanks!
Good luck to all who are cycling now!

Re: Just out of curiosity....
Remember even if you are trying to avoid multiples they can still happen and a good case in point is a New York couple. They did IVF and purposely TRIED to avoid multiples by putting only one embyo back. Well God had other plans for them because the embyo split once creating identical twins and then split AGAIN creating identical triplet boys. Chances of that happening are 1 in 200 million. So you never know. I watch Jon & Kate +8 too. LOVE that show. Good luck

Re: Just out of curiosity....
I have had 3 M/C and have a bi-cornuate uterus and the RE says he won't put any more than 2 in. I would love twins...DH a little nervous, but he likes the idea of 2 for the price of one
My RE was concerned because I will theoretically be using only half my uterus. I am concerned like you...still not 100% decided.
