Default IVF Protocol

Okay . . . we were given our IVF protocol, and we have the option of starting at the end of this month. I think DH really wants to do 1 more IUI since his sperm count improved so much the past 2 months, he feels like 1 more month might change things for us. I'm inclined to let him have his extra month since I have to travel a lot next month, and the timing really won't work for monitoring and ER.

So, here are my questions. Does everyone take Lupron or something like that? I was told 21 days of bcps, on day 19, start lupron. I will then be on I think he said 112.5 FSH/37.5 LH. I have PCOS, and I thought I'd read that LH supplements were not a good idea and that we respond better to FSH only? I was a little overewhelmed with everything and forgot to ask. My RE is supposedly one of the best in the country, so I'm sure he knows what he's doing, but I like to know why they make the choices they make!

So, any thoughts/feedback you have would be welcome. At this point, it looks like AF should be here around Dec. 29, and I'll do 1 more IUI cy. AF should be here again by the end of January, then I'll start bcps immediately, officially cycling in February.

No, no insurance coverage at all . Apparently, the amendment they sent us was a mistake, and they claim we don't have coverage even with the amendment in our possession because the cover letter says the amendment does nothing to change the terms of our agreement - so basically, they claim they sent us an amendment that amends nothing, and doesn't count as a substitution. It sucks, but we aren't going to win this one. There is a little issue in the law that we are working to fight, but we think it is unlikely we will win this any time soon. In the meanttime, we just decided to move ahead with IVF sooner rather than later.

Hi Tkeys,

Just wanted to wish you well and I hope that this IUI is 'the one'!

If not, and you have to move to IVF, I just wanted you to know that I too have PCOS and Lupuron was part of my protocol as well. My 1st IVF, I responded and stimmed well and even got a BFP but I lost the pregnancy due to what we later found out was a blood clotting disorder.

From what I understand, Lupron is used to suppress you so that your body doesnt do anything naturally and then the RE can instrument exactly what needs to be done.

I'm not a pro and maybe some of the other ladies can explain further but I wanted you to know that we're in the same boat and I wish you success with whatever path IF takes you!

In the end, no matter what it takes to get there, I hope that you get your little bundle/ or BUNDLES of joy

I too have PCOS and from what I understand they put you on Lupron to keep your natural LH down. They don't want you to ovulate on your own. You will be on Lupron until you Trigger. This is how I understood it from my RE and I just know whatever he did worked. I really hope this last IUI works for you and you don't have to go through the IVF. Not that is was a horrible thing but it can be stressful and time consuming. But either way I hope you get your BFP soon.
