IVF Consult..what to expect?

I have my first IVF consult on Tuesday...since I have had all the testing completed what should I expect??....How soon after the consult can you start the process?!?!

My "formal" IVF Consult was in December. The doctor explained the process to us, verified we had all the testing done, talked to us about odds, etc., and he set my medicine protocol. Had we wanted to move ahead immediately, we could have gone on bcps as soon as AF arrived. We wanted to do 1 more IUI, though so we waited. I had cysts, and my IUI in January was canceled, I did my IUI in February, and when AF arrived at the end of February, I went on bcps for IVF.

I think it depends on whether you have really exhausted all of your options and are ready to move forward quickly. It can happen fast if everything is in order!

When we decided to try IVF I'd already been working with the two REs at my clinic for a long time, so I knew them and they knew me. We chose the one that DH and I liked the best on a personal level and we had our consult with him. It was a very quick meeting and he basically just went over all the tests we'd already done and told us the basics of IVF. A couple days later one of the IVF nurses called and she went over the process in more detail and told me to call back when I got my period, then we'd get more b/w, another SA for DH, and start BCP, and set up the mock transfer. That wasn't a big deal at all, it's just to make sure the real ET will go smoothly. I can't remember exactly, but after I'd been on the pill a week or two we went in to meet with the nurse and go over all the meds, the shots, our protocol, etc. IMO, it moved pretty fast once I started the BCP. I would think, depending on your REs schedule, that if this IUI is a negative you could start as soon as AF shows

I just finished my first IVF cycle. Best of luck to you. Your RE will discuss what protocol he thinks is best for you. Some people do BCPs after AF arrives, others just Lupron, some both. It really depends on what the RE decides is best for your circumstances. Once you start the medication it goes by pretty fast. This is a great place to get all your questions answered.

Well I actually just started my perioda day early!!! How long do you have to be on birth control pills for? One cycle??

It varies from doctor to doctor and protocol to protocol. I had to take 21 days worth of pills, and I added Lupron on day 19.

If AF came yesterday most likely you will start BCP tomorrow and in about a week you should have the mock transfer and U/S to see how many resting follicles there are, that's when the RE decides how long you will be on BCP and how long to start Lupron, in my case I had too many follies (30+) so he decided to keep me on BCP for 4 more weeks and gave me Metformin for egg quality.
