Default IVF consult

I did it! I made the IVF consult for dh & I for May 15th!!

It's the day after my 36th birthday (yikes) so I guess it's a lil gift to myself.

We're not anywhere close to having the money, but I figure we can at least get a goal amount.

So, what can I expect? Will I walk away more confused?? lol

I'm just bummed that if we do decide to do DE we have to have a whole other consult. Is this normal in most clinics??

Default Re: IVF consult

Congratulations!! For my IVF Consult, I had already been working with the RE for my IUI cys. So, the dr went over my past cys/history, we confirmed that IVF was the best option for us, he discussed my protocol, we confirmed I'd had all the necessary tests done. If this is your first meeting with your doctor, he'll likely go over your complete history, talk to you about what brought you to IVF, discuss test results (or recommend new ones), and evaluate whether IVF really is your best option. My dr also sent me to the money coordinator person to talk about financial options, costs, etc. We opted to do a "shared risk" program - we got 6 cys included, and if no , then we got our money back. They also have a "flat fee" rate per cycle, and it drops for each cy you do in a 12 month period. We were told about financing, too. GL!! I want to hear an update. You've been through so much.

My first consult was in Jan and we start Lupron in 2 weeks. So somehow money finds you. My first consult was a little overwhelming. Just a tip I wish I had. Don't try and learn it all right away. it will overwhelm you. Just learn what you need to get by and the rest fills in along the way. It looks like we share a similar path. May ask, where all your pregnancies from ttc naturally? Has your RE mentioned PGD? Probably not yet since you haven't had the consult I suppose :. Well I am sure all will go well, in the meantime try to live life and stay positive!!!

Default Re: IVF consult

Oh sorry, I forgot to say in my post that I'm not new to IF. My first pg was natural (didn't know I was pg, but was drinking fertility tea) all others from IUI w/ Injectibles. It's the same RE and we've pretty much already discussed IVF protocol w/ PGD vs DE. I've had alot of testing HSG, karyotyping, tons of bloodworkd etc. Also tested 2 out of the 4 baby's tissues for chromosonal problems. Unfortunately she believes my RPL is from bad eggs. Probably due to an eating disorder before puberty that lasted for years. Pretty much I dove into research right after I got married (we started ttc on our wedding night) and I haven't stopped researching since. I'm stubborn like that, I want to get through this IF mine field and end up on the other side, holding my baby(ies)!

I have to be honest though, right now IF is kicking my butt. The part that infuriates me is money. Who knew it would come down to cash in the end? Very frustrating.

Anyway, thanks for the response I can't wait to go through everything at the RE's office! I'll keep everyone posted, you ladies are all so very supportive!

Default Re: IVF consult

Angie - good luck to you!! I had 3 IUIs with my RE before he said we should look at IVF. We met with him but just went over our failed IUIs and then the IVF nurse called me and she answered all of my questions - well all the ones I could think of at the time! You will have a mock transfer, just to make sure there's nothing that will disrupt the ET when the time comes, but I doubt they'll do that the day of your consult (they didn't do mine until we were all signed up and had the financial stuff in order). The money part does stink. I was in a study with the IUIs so they were all free (it was stressful though because I had to be at their office every other day as part of the study); I had insurance for the first IVF that covered 90%; DMIL paid for IVF #2; the FET we have savings for. There are a lot of girls on here with great advice about the money part so feel free to ask! Keep us posted!!

I know how frustrating the money thing can be!

At your first appointment your RE will suggest what other testing/procedures he/she'd like to do before starting your IVF cycle. Have you had the RPL auto-immune tests done?

And just something I'd like to share, is that I wish that we had moved to DEs much sooner than we did. I had four unsuccessful cycles trying to use my eggs. If money is an issue and they think it is an egg issue, you may want to go straight to DEs. Just a thought...

Wishing you the best of luck! KUP on what's happening.
