Default Hopefully some LONG TERM Relief!!!

Hi ladies....I've been MIA for a few days, I had another bout w. my back. They seem more and more frequent lately. Tuesday of last week it got REALLY bad and I went to the doctor for some pain meds. I hate when I get in that position becuase that 'happy' place only stays happy for a few minutes and then I get frustrated from feeling too 'out of it'.

Its the same pain each time.............same situation for the last 10 years, it comes and goes and when it comes........its dibilatating at times. And on top of IF, it just sends me into a frenzy. When you feel good, its easy to keep your head up and stay positive.....when you're in pain......thats another story.

So the doctor recommended after several chiropractors, physical therapists, orthopedic doctors and acupuncture only offer temporary relief (And some have actually worsened the situation) that its time for me to see a Pain Management Specialist - which I did this morning.

He quickly determined its really not my scoliosis or my spine giving me the issues, its my SI joing (sacroliac) which is the base of your spine where your hips meet your pevlis. The nerves inside those joints are irritated and inflammed.

Next wednesday, I'm having an xray injection, they'll inject cortisone right into the joint in hopes to quiet those nerves down for 3 to 6 months, maybe longer........

I'm a little nervous, I've had cortisone shots before but this is more of an advanced procedure. They said there's really no side effects and that the next day, I can just go about my business. I've got all my fingers and toes crossed becuase I certainly was NOT looking forward to bedrest next month and then my situation flarring up all over again!!

I have a call in to my RE but this doctor didnt anticipate any problems and my next cycle will be weeks away from this procedure.

So.........wish me luck that this works..............MORE NEEDELS!!!! But HOPEFULLY I can put this pain behind me and look forward to a H&H 9 months VERY SOON!

Oh, Renee, I am sorry you're going through this I know it must be scary but I also know it will help. I have a friend who had to have that procedure and it's been such a huge change for the better! I can relate to back pain. I'm actually going to my old PT person this afternoon for a massage. I have "moderate" scoliosis and sciatica and a slipped disc. I also carry all of my anxiety in my back. When I get stressed the pain is 10 times worse. I need to get back to doing my stretching exercises every day but when I'm hurting this bad the motivation is just not there - I swear it hurts worse when I try to do my exercises now! I'm not bad enough to need Cortisone and I pray it never gets to that point but it's almost a relief to know it's there if I ever do get that bad.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

Hi J! So nice to hear from you! Hope all is going well on your end. I'm so sorry that you are in pain. Obviously I totally relate and I agree, I feel like my PT stretches make it worse sometimes so its NOT all in your head!!

Enjoy your massage and do something else relaxing. I hope you're feeling better VERY SOON!

Keep me posted on your journey. You're ALWAYS in my prayers

Ack, sounds painful Renee!

I hope that you do get long term relief with this treatment. I cannot imagine how annoying it must be to have this pain 24/7. I would have gone mad. You are a trooper!

Wishing you lots of luck with this procedure. I had cortisone for DeQuervain's disease in my wrist and it worked like magic. Three days after the shot I had no pain at all. I know your back makes it a much more serious procedure but I hope the cortisone works as well for you.
It's time for you to be able to leave this problem behind and start again on the baby-making process with no distractions!

WOW!! Cheese and crackers that sounds awful! My sciatica is out of place from an old riding accident, but it only gets going if I do a lot of heavy lifting... like bags of mulch or taking down doors to paint them. So in short it only gets going if I get it going...

You might also want to check into seeing an osteopath. The old school ones still do manipulations. If you are really lucky you could find one that has an Anatamotor. My dad used to have one in his office, it had all the tension stuff to go with it.... It was the BOMB! It had heated rollers and hot packs too. *sigh* I miss that thing! It was a table you laid on that had rollers pressed up against your back. It had different strengths and heat. I used to go lay on it the first couple days of my period, worked wonders!!!

Sheesh Renee you poor thing, I met a guy who was in a horrible bike accident, he was in a coma for months, and his back was completely destroyed, a year later I saw him in a store walking straighter than me, and he was the first one who told me about those shots, he would have them every six months and he felt great.

Best of luck for you my friend, one thing less to think about when the twins get here.

My dad has done this a bunch of times for nerve pain in the back . . . his sciatic nerve is the problem. The shots have helped him get relief for long periods of time - they make a huge difference. He is fine immediately aftewards. I have picked him up after the procedure and he has been fine to walk out, get into the car, etc., and been just fine. They usually have him take some oral medication to calm him down a bit for the shot, and the pills make him a bit "drunk" for a few hrs. I think the shot should help a lot!

Thank you Renee, that means a lot to me

I had my massage yesterday and of course today I'm sore as heck but it is, thankfully, better. I asked my PT person about the procedure you're having and she said they are also now using Botox for back pain so Heaven forbid you need to look at something else you might want to ask your dr. about that. But I believe this will work for you. I know it's scary, but hey we're IVF girls! What's another needle?

I've been hanging out on the Adoption boards. This morning DH and I met with our first agency. We have one more meeting in a couple of weeks. These folks were great! I know 2 people who have used them before and met a couple people on other message boards who used them too. They all have nothing but wonderful things to say about them so that makes me feel good. DH and I were both very impressed. We both really feel "pulled" to adoption, it just feels right. It's a long journey, as long or longer than IF treatments probably, but we are on our way

J, I'm so happy you are comfortable w. the adoption agency you've chosen! I wish SO much happiness in the future, hopefully the VERY near future! I'll check on you on the Adoption Boards.

I feel excited and nervous but I know i'm in good hands. Today is my 1st day back to work since last Thursday and its only been 3 1/2 hours and my back is BURNING already! So i'm looking forward to this procedure.

Ladies, thanks so much for all of your responses. I'm constantly reminded how amazingly supportive this group is. Thanks a bunch!
