Hair Color post ET - I'm so vein
My RE's office has not said anything about coloring my hair. I typically get highlights and low lights every 2 months or so. I have an appt. for 3/6 and was wondering what others of you do. My hairdresser says as long as it doesn't touch the scalp and only the hair it's fine. Any thoughts?

Re: Hair Color post ET - I'm so vein
You will get a whole myriad of responses on this topic.
Here are my thoughts I: would not trust a hairdresser for medical advice. My OB told me to wait until the first trimester is over. If you do not wait and something goes wrong, you might question whether it had anything to do with it - even if it didn't.
As for vanity, I am right with you. Now mind you, I am a very dark brunette with grey all around my part and bangs. It is VERY noticeable when I don't color every 4 weeks. I went in for a color 3 days before my ET and I will not color until my 13th wk of pg if I am lucky enough to be knocked up.
Last pg I was ugly as he**. I actually put brown mascara in at the end. I felt very ugly but it was worth it.
Just my thoughts. I am sure there are others who disagree. It is a personal thing...

Re: Hair Color post ET - I'm so vein
Renee - Brown mascara. That's so innovative. I would have never thought of that.
When we started TTC over 3 years ago I went from sandy blonde to redish brown with a natural hemp product that was semi permanent. It was a drastic change. The following yeat after no luck w/ getting pg I decided the heck with this. I may never get pg and I'm not going to hate my hair for the rest of my life. So I went back to highlighting. What to do, what to do. If it's not safe I absolutely won't do it, but I haven't really gotten a clear answer. Better safe than sorry I guess. I guess I'll have to invest in some hats. LOL

Re: Hair Color post ET - I'm so vein
I always colored my hair the day before transfer. With my successful cycle I colored my hair the day before transfer and then probably at about 8-9 weeks pregnant (which was about 6 weeks later). I really have to color my hair every four weeks or it is awful, but I tried to stretch it out as much as possible. I asked my OB about it, she was hesitant to give me any definitive answer but then confided in me that she personally colored her hair both of her whole pregnancies starting at about 8 weeks. It made me feel much better. My pregnancy went fine and I had a healthy baby boy!
Good luck with your decision.

Re: Hair Color post ET - I'm so vein
Hi girls ,
I do not usually post on this board but saw this and had to weigh in. I work for a haircolor manufact. The real deal is this is mostly old knowledge. The reason this came about was the inpredictability of color. Technology has came a long way now. The hormone levels used to cause the color to do crazy things. It is very safe to use professional color. Over the counter color is a differant story as far as the chemical content. It is actually more caustic to you and your baby to be exposed to windex. And I am sure none of us have planned on stopping cleaning. I actually got in a discusion with my re about this. There is less haircolor absorbed through your scalp than most cleaners. He agreed. By all means do as you wish. But I will no have roots when i am prego. And if most docs were actually educated on this they would agree i am sure. They are not chemist they have no idea what is in haircolor. Some one just kept this "myth" going in med school.

Re: Hair Color post ET - I'm so vein
with hairgal. Everything I have read has said that is was actually the lead in the old-fashioned products that was the major issue. There is not lead in today's product. And you are just doing highlights, that's not even touching your scalp.
That being said, I did not color for my first trimester. I will not do that again. I will most definitely color this time around.

Re: Hair Color post ET - I'm so vein
My hairdresser says - no for first trimester (I know I've already asked and I'm not even cycling, so who's vain?) He said your hormones change and will change your color. I also use Aveda products which are supose to be all natural.
I agree with eveyrone else -- The bottom line is your call - - Just make one that regardless your comfortable with it!!!! or you could always take down every mirror in the house.

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback.
I guess I'm worried because it's so soon after my transfer. My RE didn't want me wearing any fragrance, perfume, essential oils at the ER because it's toxic to the eggs. So with that in mind it's hard to believe that bleach wouldn't be toxic. I'm thinking of asking my hairdresser if there are gentler products for lightening. I remember in junior high I squeezed lemon in my hair and sat in the sun. Those were the days.
