Going to RE 1/24 starting stims

Well thursday is my day to see the RE. I will be starting my stims and all that jazz(SMILE). I have menapur and some other goodies. You guys all know I DO NOT want to do progestrone shots AT ALL

. My cousin had a very bad reaction to them and could not work. Although I do not work , I'm a full time student and I don't want a sore hinney or legs. The Dr. said "should you have any problems we will switch you to another form of progsetrone." I tried to talk him into letting me use the supp. , but that did not fly. He said that the shots will work much better. Oh well here we go. So hopefully my ride here will be coming to a positive end soon

. They said that I should look to have my ER on , or about the 3-5. So is this the time that you ladies started to drink the pineapple juice? I can use any good advice that you may want to offer. Thanks so much for everything.

Hey Denise, I hope your ride is short and sweet! Believe me, once you get into the swing of things, you'll realize that your desire to be a mommy takes over and all these things that seem SO overwhelming and scary right now will just become your daily routine, as sad as that is, but its true.

I thought I was going to puke at the thought of the PIO/IM shots, I almost fainted in the RE's office because we went for our injection class and I wasnt prepared for them to tell me that we were actually going to do a practice IM shot. I pleaded with her to allow me to do it to DH instead but she didnt think that would really make much sense....lol......I dont know who was more nervous, DH or me!! Without even time to think about it, I whipped out my butt and he pretended to play darts, of course, my comedian husband had to throw in a joke when he teased, 'well atleast she's giving me a nice target!' Funny guy right??

It was over before I knew it and TRUST me, the anticipation of it is 100 times worse. If you have a reaction, which does NOT happen often, he'll swtich up your meds. Listen, YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS!!

I didn't start drinking the pineapple juice until the day of my transfer. Other ladies may have done it differently but GOOD LUCK regardless.......

I'll be here to cheer you on every step of the way!!

I hate the PIO shots. I haven't had one since October and my butt is still sore! My RE prefers the shots to supp. though so I'm in the same boat. They say if I get a BFP they might be able to switch me to supp. after 10 weeks. Here's hoping for that!!

Try to stay relaxed, and I know that is easier said than done, but it's the best advice I have. Best of Luck!!

You're going to do great! I'm a total wimp, but I made it through the stims and 2 weeks of PIO last fall, and I'm coming back for more! I had a mild reaction to the PIO last time, and I begged my RE to let me use suppositories this time around. Nope, they just changed the oil the progesterone is in to...get this..olive oil! I feel like a salad!!

Anyway, like Renee said, you won't believe what you are capable of, or how quickly all those shots become just another part of your daily routine.

You're not alone. There are a bunch of February cyclers just getting started. We can get through this together and laugh about it later.

and you will do just fine (even with the PIO shots) I think I drank pineapple juice from ET on but like Renee said some ladies may have done it different

Yes I'm a little scared because of what I seen my cousin go through. Howeve,r the Dr. did say that they have changed from the formula that she was taken to a new one. Well all I can do is try, BUT I'M TELLING YOU THE FIRST SIGN OF ANY CRAZY STUFF I'M SREAMING CHANGE ME TO SOMETHING ELSE(HE HE HE). Oh well what the heck a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. Thanks for all of your help and feed back. I'll let you know how things go for me.

Hey ladies,

I'm back from my RE and my class, and they want me to start menapur in the morning and also gonal F. Then I will take gonal F at night also. I have to drop my lupron down from 10ml to 5 in the morning. Then I will go back monday @ 8:40 am. So, I don't start my progestrone shot yet(THANK GOD). Has anyone had to use menapur of gonal F ? If so is there anything I should know that will help me. Also are there any side effects that you ladies had from either of the two ? Thanks again for all of your help.

Hey Denise,

I'm glad you are 'on your way'. I too did menopur but I did follistim instead of the gonal f, I think they are comparable. Your cycle sounds like mine, BCP then Lupron then decrease lupron and add stims. You wont have to start your PIO shots until the day after your ER, or wait, maybe its the day of your transfer.........see how quickly I forgot! 'DAILY ROUTINE', trust me!

I had bad headaches with the Lupron but I didnt really notice any side effects from the stims, other than being stressed out but I think that the overall picture is what does that.

Thank you for being so sweet and taking the time to support me. Yes I get really bad headaches with the Lupron. I try to eat a little something or , I drink fruit juice ( it seems to to the trick for me). I had to go to my RE today and then I rushed across the bridge to delaware for classs. That type of stuff gives me headaches too. So I hope that my early morning visits to the RE are done on my days off from class.
Other than that I try to just stay calm and I don't allow anyone to overwhelm me. Did you have to go to your RE after you started your stims ?

I think your cousin's reaction was kind of rare. While POI is not so much fun, it usually doesn't debilitate people. Like the other ladies said, you will do great and it will be worth it in the end.

Good luck Denise. I had my RE visit today too. CD2 b/w. I start BCPs tonight and return to RE 2/11/08 to start stims. Not sure which medication since I'm with a new RE. I used Lupron last year and don't recall having any side effects, but it was a long time ago. Hope you have easy injections. Can't wait to follow the reports.

Thank you AJ,Cindy and everyone else. Yes my cousin was allergic and it cuased her a great deal of pain and discoloration. Now I have to use the (Gonal F pen) 300mg. Did you guy's use the pen ? Do you remember how to use it ? I took my class almost a month ago, and I guess I'm a little cautious.

I used the pen and will use it again. I think you'll remember how to use it. Prime it first by dialing it to the 37.5 mark. Then remember to check to make sure it pulls all the way out to your dose (300 or whatever) before you inject. If it doesn't pull all the way out, the pen is empty and will only give you what it pulled out to.
