Expired meds?
I have some Gonal F and Menopur that have expiration date Sept. '08. I have heard people saying that meds expired within 6 months still good, I will be doing a FET on August/September so even if it's BFN the meds will be expire by then, should I keep them even tough they are expired and hope they work a month after, or give them to somebody now? I don't want to bring them to my doctor's office because I'm not sure the meds will be going to somebody who really needs them, I'm afraid the are going to use it in a egg donor's cycle when the couple that will be receiving the eggs already paid for the meds, you know what I mean?

Re: Expired meds?
What about asking your doctor what he thinks? Like would they still be effective and safe for you to use in the next cycle?
It could very well be he will try a different approach or dosing.
As far as giving the meds to the office, how do you feel about his nurse? Maybe if you trust her more, she will make sure they get into the right hands.
Maybe I am biased, my dad is a doctor, but I think most doctors want to help people anyway they can and would welcome the oppurtunity to do so. I know folks have given my dad meds they couldn't use and he passed them on to patients that needed them.

Re: Expired meds?
I do trust the doctors, by the way my dad is a doc. too, psychiatrist, but since I know how doctor's offices work I know that chances are he won't have anything to do with the meds, I know what you mean, I don't know, the thing is that I have spend soooooo much money with them already that it hurts me to think that they will take my good gesture and make money on it; probably is a silly thing to think and I know that at the end most likely I will give it to my nurse.....Maybe first I will post in Craig's list, we'll see....

Re: Expired meds?
Honestly, I believe they would be fine, but you can check with your RE or the maker of the meds.

Re: Expired meds?
An expiration date only indicates the last date that the manufacturer is willing to guarantee the meds. But those guys are so VERY particular that I personally wouldn't hesitate to use a med that is just briefly beyond the date. But that's just me.
I've donated meds to my RE's office before. It worked out fine for me. If you don't trust your office to use ethics in dispensing them then certainly don't donate them.
Goodluck!

I'm not sure that would be a good idea. I can see where that might be trafficking.
That and book after book on IVF say not to buy meds from Craigs list or Ebay.
Since you put this out there, I say a good gesture is a good gesture even if someone abuses it. I always tell myself that even if someone does something wrong with my gesture, I still did what was right in my heart. And that is what ultimately matters!

Re: Expired meds?
Oh no, i know, i know, I didn't mean to put it for sell...... I wouldn't sale meds like that, that is illegal, I meant for free; but yeah i completely agree with you a good gesture is a good gesture even if at the end somebody abuses it.

Re: Expired meds?
K, well I guess I'm the only scaredy cat. We had meds from our first IVF that we were going to give to a friend, but they expired. I threw them, my opinion is that you're already putting all this money, time effort (emotional & physical) into IVF, do you want to chance it on meds that are expired? Good luck with whatever you decide!
