Icon5 Drug question

Hi Ladies!
I have a question and while it isnot technically an IVF question, I figure many of the IVF'ers started with IUI and Clomid, so you might know!

My RE has me starting clomid CD5-9, but he wants my to purchase the brand name instead of generic. He says there is a better response rate with brand. Has anyone heard of this or experienced it themselves?

$160 might not be much to him but sheesh, my insurance doesn't cover it naturally and it is a big deal for us!

Thanks!

Clomid is listed as Clomid on Wal-Mart's $4.00 drug list.
$4 Prescriptions - Pharmacy - Wal-Mart -- Hope I did that right.

Why not the generic though aren't the the same Best of Luck to you!

By federal law (FDA) all generic brands MUST have the same quality active ingredient as brand name drugs, most of the time both generic and brand are made by the same company. Some doctors are kind of "picky" but I personally would not pay the some $100+ for brand name Clomid, of course that's my opinion. Best of luck.

I agree, there is no difference in the two, save your money. I found this on-line:

"All generic medications must have certain tests to compare them to brand-name medications. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) then looks at these tests to decide if the generics are equivalent to the brand-name medications and assigns each generic a rating. An "AB" rating means that the FDA has determined that a generic medication is equivalent to a brand-name medication. All of the generic Clomid versions that are currently available have an "AB" rating, meaning they should be equivalent to Clomid."

HTH.
