Comparing Success Rates
I have been looking all over for my clinic's success rates. I finally found it today on a site provided in the IVF Hints. I compared it to the success rates of another clinic in our state. They are significantly different. Of course, I am currently at the clinic that has the lower success rates. We are doing IVF due to male-factor. For the other clinic it is a 51% success rate for those under 35. My clinic is 23% success rate for those under 35.
That is a big difference. I am scheduled to start injenctions on the 28th & I don't know what to do. Why would it be so significantly different? Should I switch at this late date - what do you think?

Re: Comparing Success Rates
It could be a ton of reasons. It could be one clinic only accepts super candidtaes where yours may take on harder cases. One clinic could specialize in one thing, another something else. I would continue as planned and not let rates make you crazy.
Good Luck!

Re: Comparing Success Rates
I don't think it has anything to do with how good they are. It could all depend on their clients. I think you should hand in there, and if for some reason it doesn't work, then to switch. But if you just have a bad feeling or don't like their vibe, iwould switch. Go with your gut. Good luck.

Re: Comparing Success Rates
Alot of the rates have to do with the number of women seen. Some may have 50 patients and the other might have had 100 patients.
IT doesnt always mean its a bad thing. Check into it more.

Re: Comparing Success Rates
Sometimes, it can have to do with the effectiveness of the lab/embryologist. Are they good at growing the embies, do they have the best equipment, can they do the transfers/growing necessary to go from a 3dt to a 5dt. Like everyone else said, it is hard to know why some numbers are better than others.

Re: Comparing Success Rates
Comparing success rates is a hard thing... it is like comparing apples to oranges.
Some clinics only take specific clients while other clients take every person who comes to the door.
My best advice is to investigate some more and then ask your clinic questions.

Re: Comparing Success Rates
Hmm, this is a tough call. I am not sure what to tell you but the maybe the ladies are right that this warrants further investigation. I traveled out of state to my new RE because he has a 70% success rate versue a 43% success rate at my old RE. I know that my new RE doesn't accept patients with a high FSH so that will make his numbers go up and I took that into consideration when choosing to switch. Can you call the other RE and ask if they have a FSH requirement?

Re: Comparing Success Rates
I think we will stay with the same doctor we are at for now...since we are so close, we have developed a relationship, we have rearranged our schedules etc. However, if it doesn't work (I hate thinking about that!) we will consider switching.
Thank you for your suggestions. Many of you suggested doing further research. . . what types of questions should I be asking? How do I investigate further & will they be honest about their low scores?
