The BIG question...
Okay here it goes...
I am 31years old and had a tubal 10 years ago after having my second child.
DH is 31 years old with one child from previous relationship.
We have been together for 7 years and want one more.
We did IVF with a VERY poor outcome.
I have premature ovarian failure. Last cycle produced two embies but with a BFN at the end.
We have decided to do a donor frozen embryo transfer in Aug/Sept.
We have six five day blasts available.
The donor couple were 35 years old at the time of retrieval. It was their first IVF and they transferred two to end up with twin girls.
Here is the question...
How many should WE transfer? The donor couple was 35... We have already had a failed fresh cycle... I wouldn't mind twins but would be scared of having more than that...
I need help, I really want this to work!

Re: The BIG question...
Are they all in one straw, or were they frozen in separate batches? Meaning if would you have to thaw them all or could you just thaw 2 or just 3?
If they are blasts, I wouldn't transfer more than two. Just my opinion though.
Wishing you luck! My two are a result of a donor embie FET!! (BTW- we transferred 2- that's all that were left).

They are split up as follows: 2, 2, 1, 1
How old were your donors? That is one of the things that bothers me the most, plus that are fresh cycle failed with two 3-day.

Re: The BIG question...
I had my tubes tied at 23(6/2000). I started my IVF in 2006, I had one chemical and one blighted ovum, I had tx'erd 2 in each cycle. For my last cycle I tx'erd 3 and got preggers with twins, but one stopped growing at 7-9 weeks. I would ask for 3.

Re: The BIG question...
They will not allow anyone over 32 to donate eggs? Embryos? Or both? Just curious...

Re: The BIG question...
Well being that the blasts are proven, I would see how they look after the thaw. They can thaw 2 and if they look good that is all I would txer. If they are so-so txer 3.
but you have to ask youself that question, if they all take are you ok with that?
Is this still the same couple you have been dealing with from the beginning.

Re: The BIG question...
Yes, this is the same couple. We still do not have everything worked out. I am waiting for their attorney to give his opinion of the contract we had drawn up and then we have to have the embryos shipped to our clinic. I will feel better once they are at my clinic.
I think if they all took we would adjust and be ok. It would be scary I am sure and my biggest concern would be their health. I wonder what the chances would be for them all to implant?

Re: The BIG question...
I wouldn't bother me that the donor was 35. Lots of women who are 35 have no egg quality issues. I am 35 and I didn't with either of my cycles. If they are blasts, they are likely high quality... I wouldn't transfer more than 2 blasts either. I transferred 2 three day embies last cycle and I am now pregnant with twins.
I just did a first trimester combined screening and the results came back that each twin has a 1/ 4,716 chance of having downs or trisomy- that is lower than a 20 year old's risk. And that was with my 35 year old eggs. Unless you are prepared for triplets, I wouldn't even consider transferring 3- unless there is a thawing issue.
I wish you all the best. Good luck!!!!

Re: The BIG question...
Hi Tanya!! So glad to hear you and DH decided to go this route and almost have everything worked out with the donor couple!!! I really would suggest only transferring 2 blasts unless you are comfortable with the possibility of triplets. We transferred 2 blasts and you know how that turned out and I was thinking the same thing as you - twins would be great but I just wasn't prepared to deal with the possibility of triplets. Anyway, good luck with everything and pls. keep us posted!!

Our donor embryos had an egg donor that was 28. The couple who donated the embryos had a singleton with the same batch of embryos.
Personally, I'd thaw two and transfer them both regardless of quality. That way you could basically try 2 or 3 more FETs using the remaining embryos.
The embryolist said after our thaw and AH that one of the embryos had some damage due to freezing and/or thawing. He pointed out the "damaged" part of the cell to us. It did not respond to AH at all. He decided to transfer both anyway- and both did take so you never know- even with freezing/thawing issues! And both babies are in great health. I carried them to 37.5 weeks and a scheduled c-section.
The fact that this couple had twins and had soooo many blasts left over- really to me speaks of their quality.
Good luck!

I absolutely agree. Two is all I would transfer, unless you have some that look like they have "issues." I'm guessing that if you transfer two, you will end up with two babies. Just my
