This is a discussion on Back from IVF consult! within the Invitrofertilization (IVF) forums, part of the Trying to Conceive - Infertility category; Well, let me see.....We met w/ the IVF nurse, financial coordinator, embryologist and RE. Of course we knew it ...
Well, let me see.....We met w/ the IVF nurse, financial coordinator, embryologist and RE. Of course we knew it would be overwhelming, but it really wasn't that bad. I've researched IF treatment options for years and of course I've had access to all the wonderful info on this board! They hit on almost everything we had questions about, and we got a dollar amount.
We're looking at $15,000.00. That's for meds, office visits, PGD and 6 months cryopreservation (if there are any to freeze.) That wasn't a big shock, I was kinda thinking along those lines. Of course it's still alot of money, as this will all be out of pocket.
They said we didn't need ICSI b/c my eggs fertilized via IUI 3 times out of 4 IUI's w/ the non successful cycle having a low count and poor quality sperm. So that was a bonus. Also, when they do PGD, there is already an opening made in the outer shell (zona something, full name escapes me) so it's almost the same as assisted hatching. Which was a huge bonus! lol
We all collectively decided to do PGD first w/ my eggs and if we get no normal embryos, then we go to donor eggs later on. That way there are no "what ifs" later on down the road. Dh and I are both ok w/ that even with the risk. We won't keep trying PGD though. Just this once.
I'm happy with the appt overall. Now, where did I put that extra 15 grand I had lying around.....????? haha

I am glad it all went well. I take it you like the staff and doctor. I just chose my RE and now it feels like we're really doing this.
I look forward to hearing all about your journey!

4/2008 - uterine miscarriage (I thought that tube was blocked?!)
5/2008 - chose RE for IVF
6/2008 - learned that I have an odd shaped uterus but that my remaining tube is in fact open
7/2008 - met with RE to discuss surgery on uterus and future procedures in hopes of having a 2009 baby!
Yes, I love my RE's office but tolerate the actual RE. She's great, very well educated it's just her bedside manner that needs help. But she's gotten me pg 3 times in 10 months...soo...she can't be too bad!
Stacie, dh and I are going to try our hardest for the fall. Meanwhile, I'm going to take the summer to get healthier, clean up my eating habits a little, etc. I want to be good to go when we have the cash!
BTW, does $15,000.00 sound right for IVF w/ PGD? It was about what I'd expected. But boy, it's alot to pay out of pocket!

I just wanted to wish you all the best and give you a success story. After 2 m/c, we did PGD on our 3rd IVF. Out of 12 embryos, only 1 was normal genetically. We transferred that embryo and now my daughter is sleeping in the next room. I really believe PGD was what we needed. Had we transferred any of the other embryos, they would have miscarried. BTW, your cycle cost including meds is actually very reasonable. Our cycle was over $20K (but we did ICSI and TESE and our meds were covered by insurance.)
