Default appt update

We had our appt with dh's urologist today and the news was heartbreaking. His counts were uncountable...meaning that he's basically sterile. I told her that it only takes one for IVF and she said that the ones that she tried to identify were shaky and weren't swimming right. And then, she said that they most likely would have something wrong with them because these "naturally" wouldn't have a chance to make it thru.

She has NO answers as to why this is happening. All genitic tests show nothing.

We have a lot of thinking and praying to do before we make decisions.

I want all of you to know how much I hope all your family dreams become reality. You are all wonderful women.

You are in my thoughts...please don't give up hope. Can you get a second opinion?? I was watching this show called "babylab" the other day and there is a doctor in the show that retrieves sperm by doing a biopsy on the scrotum......i can't remember his name but try and look it up....praying for you guys.

You are NOT out of the game. I am proof. The procedure to extract sperm directly from the vas cord or testicle or other various locations is called a MESE. My DH had this procedure done as he has a sperm count of zero and has from almost 15 years due to a bad, very bad hernia repair surgery. Research Sperm Extraction, most urologist can do this. I don't know why you weren't given this option.

Please feel free to PM me and DH is available to answer any questions. He is a fairly easy procedure. DH was knocked out and was up and about (doing laudry) the following day.

If you have sperm in there, it can be done. We were able to obtain two vials. One we used and one on ice. We also did ICSI because the sperm that was collected were immature. Our cycle was 8 eggs, 7 fertilized, 4 normal, 3 made it to 3 day transfer (1 8cell grade 1, 1 four cell grade 2, 1 four cell grade 3) and I am preggo, with one bean!!!!

Please don't throw in the towel, not yet!!!!!! The cost for us (although we are in a high end town) was $5,000 and don't expect any ins co to cover it. but I'm willing to bet you can find more reasonable prices!!!!! Best of Luck to you!!!!!!!!

I am sorry you got bad news but Justine is right, you have to check out all the options available. I would definitely talk to a urologist and maybe even another RE.
Take care of yourself and your DH. He is probably feeling pretty low right now. Male factor is so hard on guys.
Again, I am sorry and hope you can find a way around this bad news.

I think I may have seen the same show... actually that is the first thing I thought of. I think it was Dr Sherman Silber in St. Louis, MO. I think the cause may have been that the man had contracted varicella as an adult. He has such a high fever it made him sterile.

I'm so sorry to hear the prognosis, but there may still be hope... don't give up yet!
