This is a discussion on Anyone with a heart shaped Uterus? within the Invitrofertilization (IVF) forums, part of the Trying to Conceive - Infertility category; A friend of mine is pregnant and just found out she has this.
He DR told her that it is ...
I have one (Bicornuate), and Im on my 3rd baby. Im so surprised that the dr actually said that. Very unprofessional. Id tell your friend to look for a different dr/OB. Also tell her NOT to google and research things on the internet. Causes more stress and it tends to be wrong. Having one is common, believe it or not. Does she know how far down her septum goes. Mine is mild. There are many types, mild to severe. There is just not one main kind of a heart shappe uterus. All depends on the septum. You can also have surgery to fix/correct it.
My kids were born term with perfect weights and were both vaginal births. My first was actually late. 8 days late and weighed almost 7lbs. My second was 3 days early and was almost 8lbs. My second was also breech until 37 weeks, when he turned.
The baby will grow on one side but can able to use the other side. The ligement stretching will be worse than normal, but bearable. Spotting throughout the pgncy is usual and normal too.
One bad thing is when you get our PPAF back, it will be VERY heavy and clotty, which is normal. Each time Ive gone into the ER to help...TMI...unclog me and to get some estrogen pills to slow the flow. But its normal. Myppaf came at 5/6 weeks, both times. The ppbleeding went straight into AF, and I was exclusively bfing too.
I wish your friend well. Hope she has a great pgncy.

Thanks so much for the info. She saw her OB and found this out today.
She is actually works with my mom and my mom just called me and told me this.
I told my mother to tell her not to get worried as there were different degrees of this, I did a quick google.
Did you see a Peri to find out the severity of yours? I have nto talked with her yet and dont know what she was told, she is not answering her phone. I will hopefully know more tomorrow but thanks for your post.
Nope. I just see my regualr dr (family practice). But some do, some don't. My dr isn't worried at all about it. No extra tests or u/s's. But like said, all depends on the degree of it.
I found out about mine when I was spotting at 5/6 weeks with my first. The u/s clearly showed one. But it wasn't bad, but definately a bicornuate one. We didn't see anything on the u/s then, just a sac. Tell her don't be worried if she sees nothing at 6 weeks. Sometimes some babies need more time to start gowing.
I know a lady here (on one of my boards) that has unicorn uterus and she had near term babies.
My good friend has this. She had an uneventful pg. Her OB said the baby chose the right side to hang out in b/c there was lots of room. She went full term and now has a beautiful 15 mo old.

I know a mom in my son's karate class that she has one, we talk a lot about pregnancies, you know since I'm doing IVF and all, and she has two kids and thinking about having another one, she never had any problems, only when her due date was coming up she needed more U/S to monitor the baby, other than that everything else was OK
Thanks everyone, I did speak with her today, I can NOT understand her over the phone at all, she is from Poland and I almost need to read her lips to understand her
She is going to see a Peri in Madison
The OB she saw was a Resident JUST OUT OF SCHOOL!!
I am just lurking here as well, but I have a "heart shaped" uterus as well. I didn't find out until my c-section. The Doc said that is why my little one was breech from the start and was never able to turn. He said the likelyhood of me ever having a natural vaginal birth was slim because of the way my uterus is. However I carried to term and never even had a single contraction. Good luck to your friend!! I wish her a healthy and happy remainder to her pregnancy!!
