This is a discussion on 6 week scan. within the Invitrofertilization (IVF) forums, part of the Trying to Conceive - Infertility category; So I went today for my six weeks U/S, they saw a gestational sac, but no heartbeat, they want ...
So I went today for my six weeks U/S, they saw a gestational sac, but no heartbeat, they want me to go back in a week to repeat the scan.
I am beside myself, I keep telling myself that it is too early to see anything but I can't stop crying, Could this really be happening to me? To have something so precious and then taken away just like that...
Anyways, this will be probably the longest week of my life, also if they transfered 2 embryos and I didn't spot or bled, then how did I loose the other one? This is all very confusing to me ad I couldn't ask the doc. because I was afraid of loosing it in front of him, I wanted to be out of there as soon as possible....
Hang in there, Ainara. It is possible to only see the gestational sac at 6 weeks, then a week later see the heartbeat. Did they see the fetal pole? Sometimes they don't detect the heartbeat one day, but it can be there the next day. Hang tight this next week . . .
You probably didn't lose the other one, it probably never implanted so it wouldn't have grown at all and you wouldn't be able to see it.
Hang in there. Plenty of people do not see the at six weeks and then will see it just a day or two later. Everything crossed here for you. Do something nice for yourself this week. Make some plans to do something out of the ordinary. It will help the time go by faster.
No she didn't say anything about it, she said "Ok there is the sac, and I think I see something inside" and then she continue to count the cysts in my ovaries and to measure them, like i give a rat's as* what have in my ovaries now.
I can't really offer many words of wisdom here as this is my 1st IVF cycle, but from what I've read (and as the other girls said), sometimes for whatever reason the H/B cannot be detected via U/S and then a few days later, it can, so ya just never know. I will definitely be saying some prayers for you!! In the meantime, try to stay positive!!

hang in there!! The same thing happened to me and next visit we saw the heartbeat! My RE said we'll just have to "wait and see" and OMG it was a loooong week! So, I understand but if I knew what I know now....I would of probably been a tad more relaxed.....easier said than done, I know, but worrying is like a rocking chair...it gives us something to do but we don't get ANYWHERE. Just a few words of advice that helps me thru tough times. I hope that helps some!!
Hang in there Ainara! I'm sending TONS of prayers for your bean your way!!! XO

Ainara-
I know the wait is totally going to suck but it's very possible for everything to be okay with the baby and for you not to have seen the heartbeat at 6 weeks. Happens to alot of women...by your next appointment the heartbeat should be there. Hang in there
Cindy
