Today's appointment with the RE, ttc #2
I guess you can say it felt like de ja vu. It seems like so long since we were in the ttc world. It was great to see our RE. We really adore him. They just moved to a much bigger and nicer office. They seem to have more exam rooms too.
We have 3 frozen embroys that have been waiting for us for a little over 3 years. There are 2-6 cell and 1-4 cell. Not the highest quality, but he said not bad. He lets them defrost overnight before transfering. He said there is a 70% chance per embryo that they would make the defrost.
So here's the plan....I'm on day 19 of my cycle, so as soon as I get AF I'm suppose to give them a call. They'll start me on b/c pills...weird I know. He wants me to take them so he can do a hystyoscopy (sp) to check my uterus and it's lining just because it's been awhile. Then I'll be on estrogen, progesteron and heparin and aspirin for my APA. My estimated date of transfer is around the second week of May. That is if the embryos make the defrost.
If this cycle doesn't work we'll go straight to a fresh IVF cycle. He said we can do some IUI's if we want, but I dont' want to waste DH's sperm. I never got pg from IUI's before, IVF has a higher success rate and we only have a limited amount of sperm due to dh's surgery.
Dh and I also discussed our concerns about multiples. When we were ttc #1 we were much more aggressive about how many embryos to put back. We put back 4 with all of our cycles. Now that I'm 37, I know the RE's like to put more back more. We let the RE know that we would prefer to be more conservative this time. A blessing is a blessing and a miracle, but we don't want to be overwhelmed.
They gave me b/c pills to take home...I haven't take those in a long time!
I'll let all of you know once AF comes and I start the meds. Hopefully, I'll have a cycle buddy.
Babydust!

I am SO excited for you! I can only imagine how surreal it must have felt to be in his office again. It sounds like you have a great plan in place! I hope that your FET is a success!

I hope that you are wildly successful on your FET and don't even need to worry about the fresh cycle. I am holding out hope that since you've BTDT all before, your body will just run with it! Good luck hon, I am crossing my fingers for a January/February baby!

Re: Today's appointment with the RE, ttc #2
Hey there honey! I'm with you on being conservative! You hit this point for TTC1 that you'll do anything. Once you have that child and you want more (of course!), you tend to tone it down because twins or more is scarier then!
That happened to an old friend of mine from high school. They have male factor issues and therefore, she's just dandy (and lucky to be that way!). Her son was an IVF baby, born 9/2002. She went through IVF again over the summer and had a m/c (was diagnosed as Turners Syndrom, a rare genetic defect). A short time later, they did IVF again. 3 embryos were transferred and the TRIPLETS were born a month ago!
Now, she has her son Gavin (2.5yrs old) as well as newborn triplets at home. I can't even imagine how overwhelmed (though very blessed) she must be.
I'm at the point where I'm hoping that when I start again, that I get preggers with healthy twins and I'm finally done with this. HA! Selfish much? I'm hopeful that we get lucky enough to have one healthy child but I'll probably be in the same boat as my old friend. I'd be happy, but a nervous wreck! HA!

Re: Today's appointment with the RE, ttc #2
Thanks for all the encouragement ladies.
Erica, the high number multiples scare me for several reasons. First being my health. I have a toddler to raise and I don't want to put myself at risk. Also, I need to have energy for her. It would be really tough to be on bedrest. Also, I want to make sure she's given attention throughout her life. If I had a whole litter show up...I would feel like she was being ignored. We also don't want to be put in the position of selective reduction. That's something I just don't want to do.
In addition, we live in Los Angeles, the cost of living out here is ridiculous. You have to make a lot of money to raise a large family. I feel really blessed to have one and we'll be thrilled if we can add to our family with another healthy outcome. Although, we want to be realistic about our limits as humans. I think we could handle twins, but more than that I would be really scared.
How is your friend dealing?
Hopefully we'll be cycle buddies.
Babydust,
joanne

Re: Today's appointment with the RE, ttc #2
It seems as though she's doing okay for the moment. Her hubby is home to help for now. When he goes back to work, that'll be another thing. Plus, they're newborn and just sleep and eat right now. I don't even want to imagine how everything will be when they start teething.
We mainly email (distance) and she obviously doesn't get online much anymore.

Congrats on starting to cycle again. I think you are smart to be conservative since you do have a proven success rate (and triplets are scary). Good luck with your FET.
