Icon4 RE Consult...

Okay, Here is my update.
My dr said that my LH/FSH ratio was so/so. she said it is not quite 2 to 1 which would indicate PCOS but that it is creeping up. She said my HSG was okay but that there is something going on with my right tube that she can't quite see with the HSG. As for my ultrasound she said that i have a LOT of follicles. She said she counted 38 on the right ovary and 40 on the left ovary! So she said because of that she did not want me to take fertility drugs because that is how people can end up with high order multiples like septuplets! So she said if we insisted we could do fertility drugs but for a max of 2 cycles. She said with this many follicles she wants to do IVF so we can have control on the number that could implant.
So our next step is to have a lap. to see what all is going on and to remove endometriosis (which hasn't been done since 1999). Then we have to decide do we go straight to IVF or do we try a fertility drug or do we go on birth control while we think things over.
The ONLY reason we are even thinking about what to do next is because DH found out yesterday that he is being laid off/fired..We don't know yet if he is unemployed immediately or if he will have like 60 days left. We should find out by tomorrow. So since we don't know what our finances will be we may have to postpone IVF for now.
Yesterday was a pretty emotional day for us. I told DH I never thought that us considering IVF would NOT be the biggest news of the day. But I guess when you find out you're losing your job the same day it does.
We're still feeling optimistic. I hope that we are able to find a new job for DH soon and that we can proceed with IVF as soon as Aug/Sept. The Dr said our best chance for IVF is 2-3 months after the lap.
So, that's what is going on with me ; )
Thanks for listening!

Wow, that was a lot of information to absorb in one day. Glad you are still feeling optimistic!
So sorry to hear about DH's job. Is in he a profession where finding another job will be easy?
Are you going to do the lap soon?
What reason did she give for you to have so many follicles?
IVF is a big step, but on the +side, it gives the best chance of getting PG in any one cycle (my RE told me 40%).
I hope you get everything straightened out and have a baby really soon!

Hi!
I know, that is a lot of information! Well, the dr didn't say exactly why i have so many follicles, except she said that I (obviously) don't ovulate on my own. My lap is scheduled for Thursday of next week. She will also be doing a D&C at the same time and she may do ovarian drilling. She said that will be my best shot at ovulating on my own. Although, we don't really expect I will. The more I learn about my cycle I am finding out that the only time I may have had a 'real' cycle is when i was on bcp (which was for 8 years) or when i take provera.
IVF is a huge step. It's like going from 0 to 100 in a second! But DH and I want a baby more than anything so we'll do what it takes. What is so funny is that at every appointment I think 'maybe all we'll need is clomid'. Well, unfortunately that wasn't the case for us. And as my dr said why mess around with the middle step when it is too big of a risk for multiples.
As for DH's job...dh is a minister and so it is very difficult to find a new position in the same geographic area. But we are trying. DH doesn't want to move since we are so far into the fertility stuff and are really happy with our dr, etc. DH has a degree in Business Management so he could get a job in another field. We'll just see where things take us. We find out today if he gets any severence pay or anything.
Thanks for your support and the IVF success rate! That is encouraging.
Have a good weekend!

Good luck with your lap this week! I hope it all goes well. IVF is a huge step, but if you get your baby soon, then it doens't really matter how you get there!
I hope DH gets his job situation worked out soon.
Let me know what happens with the lap!

Hi Molly!
Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. Things have been crazy. I've been out of the office since Monday (doing some training at another location) and then the lap yesterday.
So here's the story about my lap, hysteroscopy, and d&c...
Well, i had my lap and everything yesterday am. All went well. I loved everyone who was there for the procedure (dr, anastesiologist, nurses, etc). They were so nice. And this was the first time that after 'going under' that when i woke up i didn't vomit! That's because the anast. gave me something for nasea that cancer patients use. so that did the trick!
Anywho, they removed endo and said everything else looked good! So now we know that the only cause of not getting preggo is me not ovulating. The dr said she'll have some options for us when we go in next week for our post-op appt. I'll be home resting until monday. So far the only pain is from the gas. It went up into my ribs and shoulder and boy does it hurt. DH wanted to take me to the hospital last night! but i told him there's nothing they can do.
Anyway, that's all : )
Glad it's over.
Oh, the only thing that sucks is DH and I can't BD for 2 weeks (due to the d&c) and in 2 weeks we're going to be on vacation...with his entire family! Now watch, this will be the one time i O and we won't be able to bd. Oh well
Baby dust to all!
How is everything going with you? Your chart is looking good! Maybe this will be your month! I really hope so.

Erin-Glad the lap went well and that you had no nausea after the procedure!
Since they said that you not ovulating is the only reason for you not getting PG, do you have to go staright to IVF?? Can they let you try some ovulation induction drugs like clomid?? I can't see any reason not to, but what do I know??
No, this won't be my month. Temp is going down and back is achey. I expect AF on Monday. Oh well, I get to go back to the RE next week on CD3 for the bloodwork and ultrasound and then start a treatment plan, so that will be good!
Have a great weekend resting and recovering from the lap!!

Hi Molly!
Well, I didn't get to talk to the dr directly since I was out of it but we'll have a post op consult this thursday and she'll discuss our options then. DH and I have decided that if the dr agrees, we'd like to try for 3 months on our own (til October) then do 2 cycles of clomid (til december) then do IVF in January if we haven't conceived by then.
I'm glad you have your bloodwork/u/s next week. I hope everything comes back fine and that will give your dr some good ideas for your treatment plan. Let me know when you go and how the results come back.
Have a good weekend!
