Default Provera

Hi Ladies...I'm a Nov. Blessing Mom...but I have a question re: Provera
my friend was put on Provera 10mg for 10 days due to irregular periods.
She has hoping to regulate her periods to start trying to conceive. But
what happened is that she was given Provera & she was already pregnant
like 4 weeks! Now she is worried sick that the drug could have affected
the baby's development. She had some mild cramping over the weekend.
She has miscarried before at 3 months about 1 year ago. It would break
my heart if she had to go thru this again.

Has anyone taken Provera not knowning you were pregnant?

Thanks ladies for help.

Hi there,

I am sorry your friend is so scared, but please pass on congratulations on her pregnancy. I did a search and found a very informative article, but she should still talk to her physician ASAP. It's confusing because it seems like Provera can be used to prevent miscarriage, which is good, but could cause some abnormalities/defects, which obviously is BAD! I hope her doctor can help her out, and she can have many U/S or an amnio to check how things are. Good luck to her!

Thank you so much for your kind reply.

Can you believe the only support my friend got from her Dr.
was "let's hope for the best" & referred her out to an obgyn...
no I'm sorry for not sending you to the lab for blood work or having you
take a pregnancy test before prescribing provera...

She has an appt. next week for an ultrasound. Her spirits are
up & she is happy she is pregnant finally

Thanks again...
