icon16 A New Year,A New Problem

Hello All
I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Hubby & I spent the weekend making a gerbil city in our spare room. We have 2 gerbils & they need some tubes to run through.
Anway AF arrived on Friday and I went to see my RE and the follicles were still
there from the last cycle(IUI) . I asked if it was possible for the trigger shot
to not release the eggs and they said YES. So I had a heavy period over the weekend and went back today for another ultrasound and the follicles are still there and growing bigger. So here goes January without even doing anything.
Now I have to wait to get another period and then hope that the cyst are gone
next time. This is so frustrating! What I do not understand is that, this has never happened to me before and the nurse said it happens alot.
They were too busy, that I didn't even ask any more questions,so that's why I'm here, hoping to get some questions answered. I plan to call my dr tomorrow
when he is available and ask the questions, but for now,I'd like to know.

Why did the trigger shot not work?
Is there a bigger dosage for the trigger shot that I could use next time?
I took Provera to bring on this period, could I just keep taking provera, will it keep my period going or should I just wait a week and then take them and then will it bring the period on?
Is it possible that even after I get another period the cyst will still be there?
If so,what happens then,surgery?

Thanks for any help in advance and I wish everyone luck.

Hi Nicole,

I have also heard that the cysts are very common. My doctor does an ultrasound on day 3 before starting meds. If there are cysts, they make you wait until the next cycle. Usually they are gone by that next cycle. I don't know why if they gave you a trigger shot, that the follicle didn't release the egg. Maybe you had more than one and one released and one didn't. I really don't know about that. I know it is hard to wait a whole month when you want this to happen now. Getting the dose of clomid or other drugs just right can take a few months also. My first doctor (regular OB) was very conservative and it took about 9 months just to get more that one egg and progesterone levels they were happy with. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Hi Bilinda
Thanks for repsonding. My dr doesn't use clomid on me anymore,it never does anything. It's just Gonal F & lupron for all my cycles now. It doesn't make sense
as this has never happened to me before( eggs not releasing & follicles staying)

What do you think of me taking provera again even after just taking it? My period came on Friday and it should be gone by tomorrow. I was thinking of
taking the provera again in a few days,I do not want to use BCP.

Nicole - I have PCOS, and BCP's are the only thing that would get my cysts to shrink. I hope they go away soon.

Hi Nicole,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner and I hope it isn't to late. I would not take another round of Provera. I would just let your body wait the 28 or so days and get checked when your next cycle starts. I feel that the more meds you take, the more it can mess you up. I used to get terrible heavy periods when I took clomid or Gonal F. Taking more Porvera before your next cycle comes or is due to come would not be good. As

Bilinda
