Default HSG procedure question

Does anymore have information on HSG? I just had my 2nd m/c and this last m/c was an eptopic pregnancy. My dr said she wanted to do a HSG around the end of March and I have heard from several people that it's pretty painful and I'm scared to find out if there is something wrong with me! As bad as I want to know, at the same time I'm afraid that I have blockage in my tube that caused me to have an eptopic. I was 12.5 weeks with my first pregnancy and had a d&c done and now with my 2nd m/c they were able to save my right tube my giving me a chemo shot so I could pass everything on my own. I just lost this 2nd baby the day before Christmas, so the holidays were horrible to say the least. Then, the beginning of Jan. I had to go back b/c my HCG levels weren't dropping as quickly as my dr wanted them to, so I had another chemo shot.

Has anyone experienced this, I need help and some advice b/c I'm scared!!

Thank you for listening,

Emily in Ohio

I'm sorry to hear about your loses.

First of all the HSG is not that painful. It's a bit ackward and you have some menstrual type cramping afterwards and that's it.

I also would suggest you get another opinion before you ttc again. I'm a little confused about your m/c's. It's impossible to have a ectopic pg at 12 1/2 weeks. Most end by the 6th week. Are you sure they were ectopic?

It might be a good idea to good to a fertility specialist and have them look at you history and give you an exam.

Good luck!

Each person responds differently to the HSG. It was painful for me AFTER the process because I reacted to the dye they inserted. But... I had a slight blockage of my left tube and the dye cleaned it right out. Either way... don't let the fear stop you. For some it's been known to be the miracle procedure because it helps clean everything out and research shows that some people get pg within 2-3 months after the procedure because of the cleaning. Good luck! Praying you soon have a sticky bean you can enjoy for 9 months!

I was just lurking. I had an HSG about 1 month ago. Everyone reacts differently, I had very INTENSE cramping afterwards and was in bed for 2 days. My best friend had one and she had no problems. The procedure it self is slightly uncomfortable but there is no pain then, but depending how you react to cramping that is where the pain may or may not comein. I hope your test comes back OK and lots of babydust to you. If you would like to see what you will see during the procedure I can email you a copy of my test. It is on CD. All you really see if you get to watch is an Xray of your insides and you can see the dye inject and flow through....

Thanks for your email! Yes, I would like to see the CD of your producture. Can you send it to me though this board or do you need my personal email address? I think that would really help me out.

Thanks!

I'm sorry if my email was confusing. My first m/c when I was 12.5 weeks was not an eptopic pregnancy. My first m/c my dr and infertility dr can't find out what happened to my baby. They did a chromosone and tissue test on the baby and everything looked normal. I did find out that my baby was a girl and I was so sad. My 2nd m/c was an eptopic pregnancy and I was 5.5 weeks when they found out. I called my dr when I tested positive on a pregnancy test and he wanted to do an ultra-sound that week b/c my HCG level's weren't doubling every 48 hrs. He had a clue that something was wrong.

Emily,

I'm sorry you've had to go through all this.

Just remember that whether it hurts or not it will all be worth it. I hope you get good news.

Babydust!

I'm new here, but wanted to chime in. I also had an HSG done b/c I had an ectopic pg. My tube was NOT blocked...it was slightly "sluggish" as they called it, but the dye went through it. For me, honestly, the procedure was very painful...I ended up passing out b/c it hurt so bad (but then again, I have a HORRIBLE pain tollerance). Once they woke me up, I had some really mild menstrual like cramping for about a day, otherwise I was fine. They don't know why I had an ectopic pg, and I have been pg 4 times since then (miscarried all of them, unfortunately) and none of them were ectopic. So stay hopeful, just b/c you have one ectopic doesn't mean they all will be from now on. I wish you luck and hope everything goes okay for you. Just be sure to take plenty of Ibuprofen AT LEAST an hour before your procedure. I waited too long to take mine, and I think that is why it hurt so bad. I later had a saline salpingogram (same as the HSG, but instead of dye they use saline and do an ultrasound) and I took the Ibuprofen early enough and I didn't feel ANY pain at all...and from what I read the two procedures are very similar.
