Default Advice on the financial side of infertlity

Hi... this is my first time here! I am 29 DH is 34 we have been ttc for 2 years with the last 5 mos on femara. I was wondering if anyone knows of any organizations that help with the finacial burder of infertility? Our insurance doesn't pay for anything and as I am sure you alll know treatment is a strain. We are heading to the University hospital in a few weeks for further testing and treatment. I would love to hear your advice on this...or any creative ways of paying for treatment. Thanks so much..and best of lucu to all of you!

I don't have any creative advice, unless you can get a corporate sponsor! Sorry, I know it's not a funny situation. You CAN claim any unreimbursed medical expenses on your taxes though, and may recoup quite a bit of money paid that way. Check with your accountant or HR Block and they can give you more info.

You can also try ARC.
http://www.arcfertility.com/
You still have to pay heaps (though they accept credit cards) but the benefit is a One Cycle Plus includes most costs associated with IVF PLUS egg freezing and a frozen cycle if the first one doesn't work. So, essentially, it's buy one, get one free.
You can also choose Two Cycle or Three Cycle--but if you get pregnant in the first one, there isn't a refund.

In MA (which I know you're not) infertility treatments are mostly covered by insurance. Maybe we should all move north. It's a lovely state and winter'll be over in a two or so months.

Another option is to ask if your doctors office if they have any studies going on that you would qualify for. If you can get into a study then they may help off set the price a little.

I know the place I go does studies for IVF and they told me they may be able to get me into one of them when the time comes which would help me offset some of the price. Good Luck!

You can also talk to your RE's office about the financial issue. I remember that when I was doing IVF in 2002, our insurer at the time (way to go, Aetna!!) paid for one round of IVF. We were lucky since we got the money for it and got pg on the first and only try. But our RE told us that if our insurer didn't cover IVF, that he would try and work with us in that he'd try to get the meds covered by insurance or he'd lower his fees somewhat. So, it never hurts to ask!

Lurking from the IVF board... there are a few girls over there involved in a Shared Risk program. I am not sure of the specifics but you may want to reach out.

I don't have insurance coverage either. We have spent over $25,000.00!! I receive donated medicine from others who did not use it all during their cycle. My doctor also does some of the procedures for free, however, each IVF cycle has cost $12,000.00. There are shared risk programs which is great if IVF doesn't work the first couple of trys. But if you are lucky enough to have it work, you lose thousands of dollars.
