Default What my kids are doing to help

How do we make sence of such a horrifying disaster? Our kids were really sad for the children who lost everything so we found a way they could help. It may not be much, but if every family could find a weay to do something it would move mountains.

My oldest son is having a birthday party next month. Instead of ppl bringing gifts to him, he is asking for donations for the children whose lives have been affected by Katrina. We are specifically donating the money to the org. the red cross has handed over authority to in our local area to aid the victims at Edwards airforce base.

Our friends liked the idea so much, they arranged a party where we all gave slightly used toys, games and dolls which will be gifted out to the 25 children right here in our community.

This is an important opportunity we have to teach our children compassion, charity and responsibility. Esp. in an age where most of our kids have too much. At first it was hard for our kids to give up some of their toys, but when we made it real for them by telling them how happy some little boy will be when he sees this truck, they soon got excited to share and filled a large bin of toys.

Like I said, its not much, but its a start.
