Does anyone have an idea how to
kick off a our own relief effort?
I thought about this for the Tsumani effort and tried my best to raise funds to help train new midwives for the area. I hope someone read my letters at CNN Yahoo and Oprah. None the less I've never let a day go by where I have not felt helpless.
I have ideas but I'm not sure how to kick them off? Here are a few:
Contact huggies, luvs, carters and gerber for food efforts and diapers for the babies and toddlers. Maybe even Graco for pack n plays! But how would they be trucked in?
Gather donations of blankets clothes etc for the older children too
Contact Kotex etc for sanitary napkins for the ladies,
Contact Payless shoes for donations,
Start selling our own SheKnows wrist bands or pins for the effort.
Etc these are just ideas...........................any imput?
how do we work together and get this going.........................I HATE feeling so hopeless!! :cry

Re: Does anyone have an idea how to
Okay, here's a thought.
What if we, as in SKs, were to set up some sort of secure account and set a goal amount. Then, somehow, have a thread stickied to the top of every page, listing contributions (who won't want to see their name listed, or listed as anonymous).
We could even have ticker type thing that shows how close we are to the goal.
There are a crap pot full of ladies here, we could raise a crap pot full of cash.
We then show the list of people you listed, Trimmer Twins, and show them we are serious about fundraising/disaster relief and see if they will help/contribute.
Furthermore, if SKs was willing to give up one or two of their massive ads all over the page and advertise that company, and their contributions, that might persuade them to help too.
I assume all those companies are donating already, but a little more wouldn't kill them. Plus, to get advertising out of it... eh?

Re: Does anyone have an idea how to
Well personally here in my community we are going to the Thrift shop on Friday, collecting and packing as much stuff as we can from 10 to 2 and shipping it to NO. We are going to be able to ship this all free of charge due to the Military postal service. Please pray we have lots of volunteers!!!

Re: Does anyone have an idea how to
I wanted to update you all that I did get a large group of teddy bears donated. I used to be a Commercial Real Estate Agent and one of my former clients had a left over 40 foot trailer of all kinds of stuffed animals teddy bears etc. They have been trying to get rid of these for a year!! The storage fees were nuts!!! so........... I got some funds raised to help with the transport!! They made it to Utah and Houston!!! YEAH!!!
THEY ROCK!!!! My poor clients were so sweet they lost thier entire retirement diving into this business but it certainly has paid off for them in other ways. They wish to remian nameless as it really is not what they would want. SO I'll just say S & G you guys ROCK!!!
