When my boys were little we would do activities in the spring time that was for the birds.

You can take milk jugs (need to be rinsed out with water only and let dry) and cut a whole in the middle of the jug. Put some straw or grass in the jug and hang it in trees for easy bird houses. OR put seeds in the jug for a homemade bird feeder.

Also if you hang string or ribbons out in the trees you can watch birds get the ribbon and strings. They use it for nests.
