Default Sheryl please advise!

Hi Sheryl,
Looks like you know a lot about fibroids and I wanted to asked you a few questions. Please do reply when you have a moment.
Age -28, have been ttcing since May 07 for about 4 cycles, last 2 cycles - no ttc as I was diaganosed with fibroids and I thought I should take a break,
I had no symptoms, my PCP found my unterus enlarged during annual physical exam and recommended ultrasound. Ultrasound showed presence of 2 fibroids. One 10 cm large pedunculated outside the ute, Second one 1.8 cm large intramural/submuscosal.
I have met 3 Gynaeclogists since then.
First one looked at the pictures and said - we know what to tackle here, you need surgery, future pregnancies at risk, miscarriage and stuff. Post surgery I can start ttcing after 11 months.
After meeting her I researched quite a bit and met 2nd doctor. She said - big one to be removed, 2nd one should be left as it is as it is smaller than 4 cm. To know if it's not letting me get pg she recommended SIS.
The third doc said - if the bigger one was half it's size she would tell me to ignore as I do not have any diffciulties like heavy bleeding etc. But she said after i get pg, bigger one can move up and twist on it's stalk leading to emergency situation. She recommended open myomectomy to get it removed and since she'll be doing it to remove the bigger one anyway it's better to remove the smaller one too. And I can start ttcing after 3 months.

I was also taking consultation remotely from a gynae friend of a relative and he after looking at the pictures his views were **disturbing** - Might be difficult to get pg in the first place. Might have several smaller fibroids. This type of ute can not handle normal labor and c-section would be required anyway.

I was also looking at other minimally invasive options like laparoscopy but doctors I met didn't recommend it. A doctor (again remote consultation) said it can be done.....

I am so confused by different views & don't know what to do.
I am 28, healthy, periods - normal, ovulation - normal but fibroids are keeping me from getting pg!! After 3 years of marriage my husband and I finally decided to have baby and this hurdle!!
What's your advice on this after looking at the facts?

Thanks much for your time.

Hi!
I am sorry about your fibroids. Sounds like you definately need to get them removed to help you with ttcing. I always say I wouldn't have my 3 children if I didn't have them removed.

What did your personal Gyno/OB reccommend? Sounds like #3 recommends what I had done first- I had the myomectomy to remove them first- had the hysteroscopy a year later to remove more. I had to have c-sections because of it. I do have little ones inside the uterus to this day- but they aren't growing and are very tiny. So I opted to leave them. It is the big ones that need to go.

It is good they don't cause pain or heavy bleeding (mine didn't either). BUT they can and most likely will prohibit pg. Some grow with the baby and cause tremendous pain. Some block implantation into the uterine wall. Some mishape the uterus and some can grow into your ovaries and damage them. So removal is necessary. I don't know much about laps for removal- just the major surgery (myomectomy) or the internal surgeries- up through the cervix (hysteroscopy).

I know you are getting tons of information and your head must be spinning. Try to find one doctor to trust and talk to them. You may be getting too much advice at this point.

Let me know what you decide. I'm here if you need me.

Thanks Sheryl for your prompt reply. You are right I need to trust one doctor and take the plunge. It's so nice to know that you are expecting your third baby after the surgery. Isn't there a limitation to the number of c-sections one can have;max 3? Mymectomy will be the first c-section kinda surgery for me so can I have just 2 more c-section?...Though I was reading on internet that one lady had her five children through c-section.
Aidan and Nathan and very cute boys. I must say you are doing a great job sharing knowledge you have gained with your experiences. Thanks again

Thanks!
I always heard 3 c-sections- this last baby will be my 3rd. The myomectomy may have cut into my abdomen- but didn't cut my uterus. It got fibroids growing on the outer wall. So it really isn't a c-section- recovery is much worse than a c-section!

GOOD LUCK! and let me know what you decide to do.

I am having a submucosal fibroid removed in the next week that is 2.4 cm . . . the doctor is doing it hysteroscopically, so I don't have to have any incisions, or any real delays for recovery. I'll need to take estrogen and progesterone supplements for 1 month to rebuild my lining, but then we can start TTC'ing again. I also have 3 other fibroids . . . 1 is pedunculated outside my uterus (I think it is 1.7 cm), the other 2 are also small (less than 1 cm) on the outside of my uterus. Doctor was not concerned about removing any of these right now, but said that laparoscopic surgery would probably be the approach to remove these down the road if it becomes necessary.
