Default Quaidmbrose

Hi,
Welcome back! It is hard to answer your question about how long it took after my myomectomy to get pregnant because I had other factors in the way.

I had my Myomectomy in April 2001 and was told not to ttc until at least October. We actually put it off until January 2002 because we wanted to make sure my uterus was strong. (My surgery was pretty major..had to stay in bed for 2 month afterwards). We ttc'd seriously until September 2002 then went to the RE and did tons and tons of tests, bloodwork and Clomid/IUI. We learned I have high FSH which is either poor egg reserve or "bad" eggs to that was a bigger factor in our infertility issues. I then had hysteroscopy surgery Oct 2002 because during several tests we discovered another fibroid and tons of scar tissue from the myomectomy. I then got pregnant 6 months after the second surgery. Which was April 2003.

So to answer your question: it took 2 years to get pregnant but there were tons of factors involved.

It may take you a few months...you just never know. I do suggest you see an RE if 6 months go by without luck. They can really help you pinpoint what is wrong. If you get scar tissue from your myomectomy they can help with that too.

One this I learned during this time was until I totally gave up and "relaxed" I wasn't able to succeed. That is why with ttcing #2 and the 7 new fibroids I have I am still going to take it easy and try to relax this time around.

I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to stick around and chat with me. We have a few gals here with fibroids that would love to chat with ya too.

i went for my post-op check up on thursday. i really was expecting to hear that i could start ttc right away. but my dr. did tell me that i should wait until june. he even gave me two pack of bc and a prescriptiion for 3 more packs. i was a little upset about having to wait but i do understand why he recommended it. giving time for the uterus to strengthen. before the surgery, i didn't ask how long i would have to wait and he never said. i just assumed that i could start right away. my only concern now is how long will it take for me to get pg after i stop taking the bc. last time i got off the bc in october 2003 and i got pg in march 2004. but at that time i didn't chart or count the days until i ovulated. it just happened. so i'm hoping that it doesn't take long.

I am sorry you have to wait..but I understand why. Your uterus does need time to heal. I had to wait a long time and we added several months to be sure. I know tons of people that got pg when they got off the pill. I stopped taking the mini pill this month and am ttcing this month. I'm actually hoping it works in my favor.

I do know they think BC pills may be linked to fibroids- they may help them grow. I was on the mini pill for 5 months and wondered what it did to my fibroids.

GOOD LUCK and keep in touch.

quaidambrose - when did you have your myomectomy? I had mine November 2nd and have been told I need to wait until at least March before TTC - so only 5 months. But...now I'm wondering if that might be too soon. Do you have to do any tests beforehand?

slk70 good luck in ttc.

sampaguita - i had my myo december 14th. and as of now i don't ahve to take any tests. but i've read on other message boards that some women have to go through some test to see if there is any scar tissue. but i'm sure what that is all about. did your doctor recommend any test for you? i think 5 months to wait might be ok. my doctor told me 6 months just to be sure, he gave me 5 months of bc pills. are you taking anything to prevent pregnancy at this time? do you have any children?

Hi you guys-

Just catching up to these recent threads. I'm suprised your docs are having you wait so long, but maybe your surgeries were more involved than mine. Did you have laparoscopic myomectomies or the "open" myomectomies (if you can recall the terminology . Mine was lap, so I was told I could try after the second month; but if I have to have the "open," my obgyn said I'd have to wait only about 3 months. I think that might not be long enough, but I guess she's trying to weigh my advanced age (just turned 43, so 39 seems young ).....

Mine was an open surgery. I was in the hospital for 4 days! I have a 6 inch scar and everything. So that is why I had to wait to heal.

i also had an open myomectomy, with a 5- 6 inch scar. i stayed in the hospital for 2 days. my dr. removed one large fibroid and 4 small ones that we didn't know i had. the reason my dr did open myo was because of the location of the large fibroid. it was behind the uterus.
