I just went through training on giving myself injections (with a "pen") and they suggested it was best to give it in the leg. I always invisioned giving it to myself in the stomach & thinking it would hurt less there. (I am an absolute weenie w/needles btw- I almost passed out listening to the instructions!)

Also, they talked about me doing the trigger shot myself if I didn't happen to be at the Dr. at the right time for them to do it. Is that harder or about the same experience as the daily shots?

I used the pen and did the shots in my belly, rotating sides every day. I found the trigger shot harder to do but mine was a very big needle but I don't think they all are, HTH!!

I just went through the training a few weeks ago and the nurse recommended giving the shots in the stomach. It was no big deal (a lot of padding there, in my case ). I do not have the pen, but the people in my class with the pen still got the instructions to do it in the stomach.

The trigger shot just depends. Is it a SubQ (just below the skin) shot or an IM (inter-muscular)? For me, the trigger shots are IM and with a 1.5" needle (compared to a 1/2 inch to a 5/8 inch for the SubQ shots). If I were to give them to myself, it would have to be the thigh as that is the only muscle I can get to. However, my nurses recommend having DH go to training with me and have him administer the shot in my butt.

My neighbor is a nurse and she gave me my trigger shot in the thigh last week. I do not think I can do that, so DH is going to training tomorrow to give me my booster shot on Thurs.

Good luck with the injectibles. Those pens looks nice!! I don't think you'll have a problem at all. I found mine surprisingly easy.

Hey Trace. I also used a pen and gave myself shots in the belly. That just sounded more appealing to me than the thigh. I also rotated sides of the belly. I also have a history of fainting from blood/needles/scary movies. However, I was so determined to do this and was surprised that I did okay. I would just sit on my bed to do the shot and then lie back afterward for a minute. It did take me a few tries sometimes with chickening out, sort of like getting into a cold pool and you have to just take the plunge. My trigger shot was sub-q, so I did it in the belly too. If yours is IM, then you would have to do the butt/hip or thigh region. You could always ask if they can give you a sub-q trigger shot. Good luck! Just keep your goal in mind!

Like the other girls, I take all my follistim shots in the belly. Padding, you know! I am super afraid of the trigger shots (They just look big to me!) So I chicken out and have one of my friends who is a nurse give them to me in the butt. I hope this helps and best of luck on your shots!

I use a pen for my Follistum and a diabetic needle for my Lupron. They both go in the belly and I rotate sides each night. Normally my doc gives me my trigger, but tonight dh has to give it to me. They give it to me with a diabetic needle in the stomach, so I don't think dh will have any problems since he does all my other shots too.
