Starting injectibles today
I am new to injectibles and just found out yesterday that we are moving to them. I had previously done 4 cycles of clomid with my OB (well half of this past cycle was with this RE). They are putting me on Bravelle (cheaper option since no insurance coverage) starting tonight. I had an u/s this morning and my uterus got a good review and both ovaries looked "active" according to them. I go back next Tues for another u/s and bloodwork.
Was a little disheartening to hear that success rate was only 30-35% on these, but better than the 18% on clomid I guess.
How often are your cycles "cancelled"? I am worried about shelling out this cash for injectibles only to have the cycle ultimately cancelled. Anything that I can do on my own or information that I need to know if I need to fight for it to continue?
Also, normally I O on cd 16-17 (on own and on clomid), should I expect to O earlier on injectibles?

Re: Starting injectibles today
Hi Julie!
I'm sorry I can't answer your questions, but wanted to wish you many baby blessings!!!
I'll be starting injectables next cycle if I'm not pregnant this cycle. I've been on Femara with IUIs for the past 4 cycles. Please keep us posted on all progress...I'll be very interested to hear and learn about what you're doing.

Re: Starting injectibles today
Hi
How old are you?
What you need to do is have a face to face meeting with your RE (not the nurse) to discuss what the goal number of follies is for the cycle, at what number of follies Cancellation becomes an option and assert that YOU are part of the Cancellation decision.
If it is too late for this, I would send your RE an fax like this:
uly 8, 2006
One page fax for Dr. Smith
Dear Dr. Smith,
At our last meeting we did not discuss the goal number of follies for this cycle. What is the goal number of follies from your point-of-view? I would also like to state for the record that I wish to be consulted before any decision is made to "Cancel" my cycle due to the number of follies. I consider us partners in that decision and I wish to be consulted.
Thank You,
ulie D.
When you send a fax addressed to the Dr, they MUST give it to him/her.
Good Luck.

Re: Starting injectibles today
I am 38.
Thanks for the info on the fax. You are right, I only saw the nurse when I went in, not the doc so I didn't have the opportunity to ask these questions.

Re: Starting injectibles today
ulie, (there is a key not working on my computer, can you tell what it is?)
At 38 your RE should be "going for broke" 5 or 6 follies......or more is what you will need to find one that is good. At your age, only about 1 of every 12 is viable. (And that is a lot better than me......with only 1 out of every 20 being viable at age 43).
Get aggressive and have yourself a baby!

Re: Starting injectibles today
Julie,
Best of luck to you with the journey on injectibles. I liked them so much better than clomid because of the s/e on clomid. To answer one of your questions, I have only had one cycle canceled on injectibles, and I have had a TON of really wierd cycles before we finally got the right med combination. Something that I have found out after starting that might be helpful to know, if you have a great cycle with lots of follicles, it is posible to have to sit out a cycle right afterward IF you have some cysts on your ovaries. I say this so that you won't be surprised if it happens to you. It doesn't happen to everyone, but I was really surprised when it happened to me.
I wish you the best of luck and the shortest stay possible with a bouncing baby at the end! and let us know how we can help support you!
