Default A real newbie!

Hello Ladies, this is my very first She Knows Post. I joined last summer when I was cautiously expecting but never posted. Sadly, I lost my little baby and never posted but lurked around.

I am very new to the infertility club. I have one naturally conceived daughter who will be 4 this Summer. Since late 2004 I have had 3 miscarriages, two early on and one second trimester at almost 17wks. All within 11 months. After my 3month post loss followup, I was referred to an RE who diagnosed with with a uterus septum. I had sugery done to remove that and had lap done too for some "cleanup". My RE is agressive and jumped me right into injectibles/IUI to better my chances at successfully having #2.

I wish I could do some cute siggies, I am lost. But I am now on CD6, this will be night 4 of menupor. So far so good. The first two nights hubby was way off the belly button mark and yesterday we stayed at an inch. It did hurt some more but my DH got nervous for some reason - yay me huh

Well I needed some company during my journey. Like I said its all new to me and almost surreal. Somedays I want a pinch to see if this is just a hard dream. I am keeping my eye on the prize though and going forward (but I do close my eyes at the scary parts!

Anyone miss their spot on their belly and have it matter? Anyone use Menupor or just any advice or tips is welcome!

I wish all of us luck on our journey!!

Hi Deanna and welcome to the injectibles. I understand what you said about this being a bad dream. For my DH and I it has been a bad dream for the last three years or so. I'm so sorry that you are having this problem, and I hope your stay here is extremely short and ends sweetly! I am on a break right now, but have used injectibles for the last 5-6 months. I don't think it is terribly important that you hit right around the belly button area, it's just a little less sensitive right there for most ladies. I once asked my RE if I really had to switch sides every night and he said no as long as I was not hitting a bruise mark. (I was up to three shots some nights!)
As for your DH having a hard time with the shots, I think that's normal. At first mine was excited about it, but as it got longer he grew more and more hesitant. I think they are really afraid that they are hurting us and don't want to do that.
This board is a little slow right now, but I will check in frequently and you can also check with the IUI board, many of the ladies on injectibles post over there as they do IUI's with the injections. We just started doing them, so I post there as well.
Welcome to a wonderful group of supportive friends, You'll love it here, I know I do.

Hi Deanna! I'm so sorry to hear of your losses. I'm glad you found an RE who is fairly aggressive. I hope you get wonderful results because of it! I didn't take Menopur, but was on Follistim. I gave myself the shots in the belly because I liked having the control, but now DH has to give me the PIO shots in the hip/butt area and he hates doing it. I sure hope that you will be expecting #2 very soon!

Thanks Girls!!!!! I can't tell you how good it feels to let it all out and hear feedback!

Michelle, I think you are right about DH, the first two days he was all ready to go and now he gets nervous and just feels bad. It makes me nervous but in reality, I will do whatever it takes just like we all would!! I wish you lots of luck, are you on break waiting for the results of an IUI or did you not have it?

Thanks Stacy and congrats to you! Whenever DH is preparing, I wish I had the courage to do it myself, he makes me nervous lol

And Thanks and congrats to you too Leah! This board is so comforting already I started injections on CD3, went in for a sono and b/w, another on CD4 after my first shot and again tomorrow Cd7. They will be monitoring me every 2-3days. I will keep you posted although I am shamefully new with all the details, i know he said, Lining 4 on cd4 and less than 10 on each side. I will definetely be posting more and asking you guys what it all means, my doctor already knows I get nervous lol I never heard of a uterine septum either until my first visit and first u/s with my RE who saw it right away. Its basically a wall that literally seperates your uterus, in my case 30-50%, i know it was large and I haven't even asked how much when he did the surgery, I was so overwhelmed with all he had to say. Basically you are born with this and the fact that I have my daughter is a blessing. Obviously not all pregnancies with a septum end in miscarriage but you are at a greater risk depending on where the baby implants and how large your septum is. Here is a really good explanation:http://health.ivillage.com/gyno/0,,sm,00.html. Ofcourse my RE won't tell me and can't tell me if this is what caused any or all of my losses, but it could have been a factor.

Thanks again girls for the warm welcome! I wish you all lots of luck in your journey as well!!!!!

Welcome, Deanna!!! I am so sorry to hear about your losses. I wouldn't let DH give me the shots and he didn't want to give me them because he knew I would freak out if it wasn't done right and that way I only had myself to blame if I did it wrong! I am a liitle anal about certain things!

Deanna,
Sounds like you are being monitored closely. I always wrote down questions before I went or I'd forget to ask my questions (and wrote down the answers too). Best wishes to you!

Aww Baby Bub is GORGEOUS! Congrats!!!!!!!! I am learning about these shots, last night my brother did it, he is a pediatrician and if I could see him nightly I would. I am going to mix my own way, cause that part of DH's ritual I feel I need to be in control. I so hope this will work 1st time but I know its not likely, not impossible, but not automatic.

Stacy, great idea about the questions, cause I feel like I lose all train of thoughts listening to him pop in and out!! I did hear my lining is 9 - and I got lots of #s of follicles all on my right side. He was happy and my next check is Tuesday and he is comfortable with me skipping the blood work and just do the U/S this time so I can see him in the evening when he is there. I did muster up a "how much longer do you think" and he said quite possibly Wed/Thur or Thurs/Fri!!!!!!!!! For the first time duing this path, I beamed, I said Yay and even clapped !!! So that made me feel good. From what I read on the trigger it will probably be Thur/Fri.

Now ladies since I wanted to ask and forgot it all - Sex......do I or don't - or should I say should he or not. I have heard you should obstain before IUI atleast 24hrs, so that would be tuesday? . Any advice?

I think our dr said to abstain for at least 2 days before IUI but no more than 5. You don't want a bunch of dead sperm but also want to increase the # a bit by abstaining. Then you can have sex afterward. You should ask your nurse or dr for their recommendation though. I always felt like you describe with losing my train of thought if I didn't have my questions written down. That way I'd go down my list and know that I covered all of my questions. Sounds like you are doing really well. Your lining is awesome. I hope this first time does the trick for you. Best wishes!

our RE said to abstain for two days, but then dtd the next day, or two for extra insurance. I also took Stacy's advice and wrote down questions, I can never remember while I'm in there.

We are waiting to test this week sometime. I shouldn't test until a week from tomorrow, but I may cave and do it early. (I can't take it!) I would love to know before easter! We are on a meds break, and have been for the last two months, if it isn't a this time, then we go back to the shots.

Everything sounds like it's going very well for you, keep us posted. A couple of the old wives tales I've picked up from here are to keep your feet warm after ovulation and broamlane tablets, I got mine at GNC, after ovulation to help implenting. There's my !

Thanks for the explanation of the septum, I've never heard of it. Glad they've got it taken care of.
Sounds like you're off to a great cycle!! Good lining & a bunch of good follies. My RE always looked for follies above 18-19 for the go ahead with trigger. So if you hear that, you'll know you're getting close.
I agree with STacy & Michelle...write it down! I would drive myself nuts for days trying to remember what he said or if I asked something. It can help you sort of track your cycle too.
on the abstaining thing. You want to make that count as awesome as possible.
And lastly, the shots do get easier the more you do them, but hopefully, you'll only have to do this one cycle.
