Default TSH high for newborn

We are looking for immediate advice. Our baby boy born on 27/6/2005. On 6/7/2005 we did hormone tests and his results are T4: 25.6 pmol/l where the normal is between 13 to23 and his TSH is 8.48 mIU/l where the nornal is .27 to 4.2. Do any body knows the treatment, why like this. His mother too hypothyroid.
What are the risks to our child.
Please help.

Congratulations on your precious baby! I don't know anythign about babies born with a hypothyroid. I'm sure they will give him meds to get his hormones moving, many premie babies need Synthyroid. I woudl do a search on newborns born with hypothyroid. That should help you out and give you an idea of what you are looking at for treatment.

Again, congrats on your new baby boy!
