Sorry for the length of this. I'll try to keep it as short as possible.

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism/Graves Disease over two years ago. Was put on med and it helped for a while. However, about a year ago my levels started rising again until they were off the charts and i mean OFF THE CHARTS! Had radioactive iodine therapy in June of 2004 only to learn it didn't work. My health became so bad I was put on total and complete rest as my heart rate couldn't be brought down to a safe level. Beta blockers made me wheeze because of my asthma. In December of 2004 had a second dose of radioactive iodine therapy! Thankfully this time it worked. I'm happy to report that my thyroid is now gone and I'm currently taking .05mg of Levothyroxine sp? and my levels are "almost perfect" according to my endocrynologist.

Have any of you had radioactive iodine therapy and then gotten pregnant? Do you know the risks? Are chances of getting preganant reduced because of it? Would I still be able to take my thyroid hormone?

Any advice or experiences will be appreciated.

I have a friend who had thyroid cancer, had her thyroid removed, was put on levoxyl or synthroid and was able to get PG and carry to term.

Good luck! I hope someone else out there has some success to report as well.

How long should you wait to conceive? That's what I'd be sure to ask about because there may be a wait time.
