Question for you ladies
Is it the case that if you have a thyroid issue you will face fertility problems? Can you share positive stories please? Both my SIL’s have had thyroid troubles all their lives and I didn’t know if that meant they would have to see a fertility specialist or not. Thanks.

Re: Question for you ladies
I rad that FSH is related to TSH, and in some routine bloowork lately, I noticed that higher tsh seemed to reflect a higher fsh. For example, my fsh was 10.5. Not a great number for a 33 year old that wants to ttc, and my thyroid was 3.8. In the normal range, but flagged by the lab as subclinical hypothyroidism. Last tsh was 3.0, and my FSH was 7.6! I was really happy about that. I know FSH has alot to do with fertility, so I fully beleive there is a strong relation between the two and I wonder if a large number of women with thyroid problems also have high FSH levels?

Re: Question for you ladies
My doctor told me that I needed to get my thyroid problem under control BEFORE I TTC. I know that our infertility is not ME, it's my husband. So, as far as I know, NO, the thyroid issue should not have a direct effect on fertility.

Re: Question for you ladies
If your levels are too low or high , you more than likely have problems conceiving. If your levels are monitored and kept in range, you should be ok. You will not have to see the infertility specialist as just because you have thyroid issues. My endo likes to see my TSH around 0.5-1 while TTC and when pregnant. Some endo likes to see TSH levels 1-2. We are going to the RE mainly for male infertility. I do recommend getting a good endo .

Re: Question for you ladies
I forgot to add that hypothyroidism can lead to ovulation and luteal phase problems.

Re: Question for you ladies
I had no thyroid issues with my first and she was a complete surprise, my next two I was Hypothyroid and had to take Clomid, this time around even Clomid isn't working and I am on to FSH injections and an IUI.
I have been medicated for the thyroid contition since I found out.... Personally I think my hormone probs are getting worse, given that Clomid worked 5 and 3 yrs ago but not now.
Hope some of that helps answer your question
