Default My hypothyroinism history

I thought I would post this to maybe help a few women out. I have had an underactive thyroid for about 5 years. I was ttc#2 when I was diagnosed but I'm sure I had it for a while before. Okay, I had some of the symptom but I didn't know what was the cause. I just thought it was from being a SAHM & having so much to do & not much time to relax. I was always tired, cold, my hair seemed to be falling out, I would gain weight & couldn't seem to loose any, I was (am) very emotional, and there was more. Well Dh & I decided we were ready to TTC#2. We went off bcps & let nature do it's thing. Well after a year later and nothing I went to my Dr. He had me start temping every morning for 3 months. In that time I didn't get af once. He noted that I wasn't O'ing & now we had to find out why. He put me on something to bring on af (which worked, but only for that cycle) & he tested my hormones. My thyroid was off so he started me on synthroid. He also had me take clomid to bring on O'ing. I started feeling a bit better. After about 5 months of clomid I still wasn't pg & only the last month (each one was a little higher dose) I was referred to a specialist in fertility. Well less that a month before my appt we found out I was pg. I think it was mostly the synthroid finally controlling my hormones.

Okay now on to the pg with hypothyroidism. My pg was as normal as my first one without the thyroid problem. I delivered a healthy baby 9 months later. My Dr told my that I didn't have to worry about my children being born with it. I have since then had to have my levels monitored & my dosage has been raised here & there but I have also had another healthy baby too.

Thanks for sharing you story. It's encouraging to hear someone still have a healthy pg and baby with thyroid issues.

Thanks for sharing. I easily got pregnant the first time, but after 2 years I still wasn't pregnant for a second baby. I just found out about my thyroid last June so I have been on Synthroid for about six months. I just stopped BCP this month so I am hopeful. I also only have one working tube so who knows what will happen.

Thanks again!

I am so glad that my post can help others. When I was new to thyroid issues I wish I would have heard stories of others with the same problem so I could have maybe related to & gotten some insight.

Natalie--There are many women that have carried healthy babies even with thyroid issues. Some Dr say that you have a greater chance of miscarriage if you have thyroid issues. My Dr didn't seem to think so & he is pretty "up to date" with his knowledge.

Heidi--Thank you for sharing that with me. I really do feel blessed that I have 3 wonderful girls but I am longing for that last chance of a sweet baby boy. i would also be happy if it was a girl too. I just love my girls!

Princess ya-ya--I hope that your journey is a short one TTC#2. Being that you have been on the Synthroid for 6 months already I hope your cycles are textbook after BCP!

As for me I am currently on Cycle 4 after BCP. The problem here is that it has also been almost 6 months! I have been having some long annovulatory cycles. So far our journey to have #4 seems like a long one & basically we have just begun.

Lots of luck to all those who have thyroid issues! Wether you are TTC or not it can be tough at times.
