Default meds: generic or non-generic

I have always been on the generic brand of thyroid medication until my most recent doctor who recommended the name brand. I'm going to be losing my 'good' medical insurance in a few months and I will probably switch back to generic to save $ as I will be paying for prescriptions out of pocket. Anyone have any thoughts on the generic vs non thyroid meds?

When I was first dxd I took Synthroid. My gp said it was better esp. when trying to regulate. After finding the dose that worked, I switched to generic. I was having problems with my tsh changing so I went back to Synthroid and have been on that ever since. My endo only rx name brand meds for thryoid disorders.

If going generic saves you a lot of money the it's worth a try. If you find you are having problems then the name brand is probably best. If you are TTC then I'd lean towards the name brand, IMO.

Hi
I take unithroid, wouldn't take any other synthetic t4.It has worked better for me than anything.I've been on everything from synthroid to levothroid to armour!Been on unithroid for well over a year now.
It's not that expensive, even without insurance I think a month's supply is about 10 bucks, maybe a few more but not much.
I would gladly spend the money if the med is working well.
I've been dx'ed with Hashimnoto's for over 8 years now.R\The past 3.5 years have been pure H%$#!
Have a wonderful day

I have found the same as Star622. My endo said to pick one and stick with it; either use the generic all the time or the brand. I have found that for me Synthroid is much better at keeping my levels regulated than the generic Levoxyl.
