Icon7 How I *think* I increased my fertility

Quick intro...
I got pregnant easily/accidentally with first baby at age 22
Had trouble getting pregnant with 2nd baby at age 26. We tried for 16 months then finally saw an RE and got pregnant via Clomid/IUI. All tests at that time in 1995 were normal for both DH & I but they did NOT check my thyroid levels. It just wasn't done as a standard test my my RE at that time. Five years later I was having hypothyroid symptoms and went to family Dr. who checked my levels . TSH was 5.5 and she told me that was acceptable and high but still in the normal range. Six months after that we went back to RE to TTC baby #3. RE checked thyroid levels and said "WHAT!?! That's a normal acceptable TSH level for an 80 yr old woman not someone 30 yrs old TTC!" He put me on Synthroid and I got pregnant with baby #3 that very same month. Have been on Synthroid ever since and got pregnant easily with baby #4.

Well....... after having baby #4 about a year ago we thought briefly that we might want one more baby and so I was charting and noticing that even tho I was on a good dose of Synthroid and my TSH level was between 1-2 (under 2.0 is recommended for TTC) I still was NOT ovulating every month. That was fine though ebcause we were not 100% we should have another and life just went on busily from there. I decided to try and get back in shape and started walking and exercising a few times a week. i also went on the South beach diet and lost 15 lbs. WELL..... I *really* think losing the 15lbs made a HUGE difference in my fertility. And SURPRISE we're having baby #5 afterall! We're thrilled and just wanted to share what i thought made the difference for me.

Wishing all you great success in TTC!

I too got pregnant easily/unexepectely but at 28. I have a four year old daughter and when she was almost two we decided to try for another. After two years of nothing, we were starting to wonder then I had my appendix removed and since the surgeon is a friend he knew we had been TTC and he had a look around. He found endo, I later had a lap with my GYN and she stated it was Stage III endo. I went on Lupron for three months and then on BCP. In the mean time I found out my thyroid is under active and I am now on meds for that so, now we start this month to try again. I am hoping that the thyroid meds really make a difference.

Congrats!!

Hi! I am new and ttc#3. I think you are on to something there with the weight loss. Both times I have gotten pregnant it was after I had lost some weight. This time around I just can't keep it off. I lost 20 pounds and this fall just gained back 15, ouch! I have been on thyroid meds for a year now but we have been ttc#3 for wayyyy to long (4 1/2 years). It HAS to be the weight. We have been tested and there are no "obvious" problems.
By the way, I loved south beach and also lost weight too. I lost weight on it too. I am planning to start on it again tomorrow. It is so hard though to get the junk food cravings to go away after christmas!
Thanks for sharing, congrats!

I suppose that makes sense. After all I mainly gained weight from my thyroid problem, unfortunately starting the meds doesn't allow you to lose the weight.
Anyhow, I am thinking about South Beach myself. Thanks for saying how it worked for you.
