Hi, I'm new to this particular forum. I'm Natalie, 34 and ttcing #1 for over 6 years.
I've just found out that I have hypo. I've heard that is can cause early m/c. i also read a post where someone was stating that their newborn premmie has hypo. I was also a preemie (many moons ago) I must've had this all my life and am just finding it out.
Anyhow, my Endo wants me to now have a Thyroid uptake & scan. I've been trying to find out but get conflicting answers on the web. It's about when you can ttcing after having the radioactive chemical in your system after this procedure. Some sites were saying to wait once cycle another to wait 4 - 6 months. I'm wondering if this is necessary because they've already have my b/w results what advantage is there for me to then have this procedure done? Would it be bad for me to refuse doing this procedure or is it worth while in getting a thorough diagnosis? Anyone else had this and can answer my questions?
Thanks in advance

Natalie--I have had Hypothyroidism for about 5 years now. I have had 2 children since being diagnosed & have never been told by my Dr that my kids may have it or that I would be at higher risk of miscarriage. I have however read that there is a "slightly" higher rate but if your Dr is monitoring you & checking your levels you should be fine. I too was worried that my girls would have this but so far so good.
Thanks for the info. One can drive themselves crazy reading stuff on the internet. You give me hope seeing you have 2 healthy babies. I have to wait before I have the thyroid uptake scan, they want me to see AF first. Thanks for replying.

Hi Natalie, I, too, am scheduled for a thyroid uptake scan & am pretty clueless about what it is. I recently had a miscarriage & my ob told me that she thought i might have a thyroid problem cuz one side seemed larger than the other, so i got blood work & an ultrasound & now they want me to do the scan. I was also wondering how long you have to wait to start ttc again - dh & i were pretty anxious to try again right away. Hopefully someone here will know.. I really hope its not too long !! Good luck to you !!
oops - i didnt even look at the dates here - i guess you would probably know by now, huh? duh !! sorry about that - if anyone even reads this thread still
Sorry, Susu. I just popped in and saw your post. I guess you must've have your Thyroid Uptake by now. If not, you can ttc right away because the Thyroid Uptake is a preliminary test. It's whether you go ahead and have the Radioactive Iodine that makes ttc be put on hold for at least a year. I decided to go for anti-thyroid meds. I was on met but then changed to PTU as it was safer to take when ttcing and pregnancy. I also wanted to get used to it as the Met was making me sick.
I am now please to say my levels TSH, T4 and T3 are now in normal ranges. I am on a ttcing break because of surgery. I should be back at ttcing in the Fall once I'm healed.
I hope you are still around. I'll promise to pop in every couple days.
