Default question

hi there. My name is candice and i was just diagnosed with PCOS I LOVE children and i want 4-5 kids one day but now i'm so terrified that my PCOS will cause problems. my doctor told me it won't but i wanted to come and meet all you strong ladies and ask your opinion. My whole life, all i ever wanted to be was a mom. I work on a freaken post-partum unit (i'm a nurse) for goddness sakes. if that doesn't spell baby crazy i don't know what does. LMAO

so, what i wondering is, how many of you have children? how many? how long did it take you to get preggo? where there are complications during your pregnancy? have you had any m/c's?

i know i should know all this being a nurse but i feel so retarded when it comes to stuff happening to me.. sorry for all the questions.. just worried/anxious about getting preggo.....i would die if i could have just one baby....

thanks for taking the time to read this. i really appreciate it...

Default Re: question

Do you have regular cycles? What has your doctor suggested? A lot of women with pcos do not have regular cycles, therefore, need some type of help. I finally found the right med combination that allowed me to have natural cycles for the first time in my life and I'm 36.

I'm clearly not a success story, but the board seems kind of slow so I wanted to respond! For some the journey was short and for others it's a bit longer.

Good luck!

Nancy is right, for some people with abnormal cycles, it can be harder to get it normal but for some PCOS-ers, its not a problem to get pregnant. Once I was on Glucophage, my cycles were regulated. However, we have some male factor issues as well.

I know of some PCOSers who have no problems and some have many. You just have to take it one step at a time. I am only mild PCOS tendencies, but some people are severe. Its kind of a random disease that hits everyone differently, but a lot of it can be regulated with meds.

Hey Candice,
I just wanted to let you know that I have been exactly where you are right now. I was diagnosed in Jan. 2001, and I was devastated! I read everything on the internet, and it scared me. Not only was I never going to be able to have kids, but I was going to turn into a man!!! Neither were true! Although I knew I didn't want to have kids right then, I wanted to prepare my body for them in the future. I have an excellent specialist who also assured me that I woud be able to conceive with PCOS. He put me on a special type of birth control, Glucophage (500 mg 3x daily) and a diet. I stayed with it until November of 2004, when I decided I wanted to start trying to have a baby. He took me off birth control and told me my best chances of getting pregnant would be the first few months after going off. I didn't get pregnant after six months, and I was really starting to get discouraged. He encouraged me to buy the Clearplan fertility monitor (expensive $200) to see if I was ovulating regularly..yeah - I was! We kept trying and I got pregnant in Sept of 2005 (almost a year of trying). The pregnancy has been successful (I am currently in my 3rd trimester) and thankfully, uneventful. I have stayed on my Glucophage throughout and I am still on it now. Do not get discouraged - it is possible to conceive with PCOS. I have THREE friends with PCOS who have children.
