Hi I have a 10 month old which was conceived naturally (took clomid once didnt make me ovulate). I also have PCOS & I want another baby , yesterday. I went to a fertility clinic gave me u/s and i was about to ovulate so we had intercourse as suggested and i got my period sunday. went to obgyn today (fertility clinic not covered by ins) and he gave me a prescription for metformin alone. what are your experiences & suggestions???
thank you
Dana
I too as well have PCOS. Clomid didn't work for me and I took 3 rounds. I recently found out that only 50% is covered under insurance for the fertility clinic. I haven't yet tried Metformin. Let me know if anything changes for you using it.

well, i am using an ovulation monitor and also taking metformin as you know & on day 7 (actually days 7-11) i have had high fertility reads, hopefully tomorrow is a peak day. If it is the metformin , wow it worked fast
I just got my bfp today and diagonsed with pcos on 3/20/07 about 3 1/2 or so years of ttc. I was put on Metformin on 3/20 it helps to make cycles for "normal" and regular and also helps you to ovulate. It takes a least a month for it to work. Really what you eat it can upset your tummy but overall it is a WONDERFUL drug for women with pcos, I hope this helps and babydust to all!!
Metformin is our wonder drug. I tried cycles of clomid up to 250, and nothing ever happened. We basically ran out of money after spending thousands trying to concieve. I concieved our son naturally when I was 24, then several miscarriages (4 "documented" - many more that I "think" occured), before starting the Metformin. I had tried it before and was able to concieve, but then I would miscarry. Finally now I find that using the Metformin to induce ovulation and then progesterone/metformin combo until 22 weeks works for me. We have a 9 month old daughter, Summer, and we are expecting again in October. I am extremely annovulatory - I can go up to 8 or 9 months without a cycle and then have a provera induced one.
I still do not have 28 day cycles - I have to watch for my fertility indicators (I am too much of a restless sleeper for charting) - mine are cervical mucus changes, ovary pain, and then I can check my cervix to see if it is open or not....anyhoo! The cycle I became pregnant with this time started on December 19, but I didn't ovulate until January 21. I got the BFP on Feb. 2nd - I tested a little early, but it was already showing positive.
I just wanted to throw some hope in there - I really didn't think I would ever be one of those who would be posting that I will now have 3 kids, but I am! I had tried everything - including gastric-bypass surgery - the Metformin is what finally did it for us.
good luck!
Hugs,
Melissa

Met. alone didn't work for me. I needed to take 2000mg with 30mg Actos in order to have natural cycles. Looks like I'll be headed back onto Actos soon since the met. alone isn't doing what it needs to do this time either.
Good luck. Sometimes it is all that is needed!

Sorry to interrupt, but I have been on met 2000mg for 8 months and it hasn't regulated my cycles or made me O. I'm thinking about adding Actos, but I was wondering what changes you noticed after adding actos and how long it took to see those changes. Thank you
I started regular cyces within a month or two of starting it. I was taking 30 mg.
I just started taking Actos again, 15 mg this time. I have been having 40 day cycles since having Caden. I started the actos in March or April and this cycle was 35 days, so it's already working for me. Before it gave me cycle, and now it's making them shorter, which is about where it was before pregnancy.
HTH. It was the magic combination for me. It also brought me a new found hope because I at least had some chance every month aside from our MF issues.
