Hello everyone,
I am new here and have read a lot of your life stories. I have experiences like many of you. I am 26 (will be 27 in 5 days) and happily married but i have not been lucky enough to have any children. I had my first miscarriage in dec of 2003, I did not know that I was pregnant. I had thought that maybe I was and took two test and both were BFN, then one night i started bleeding heavily and by Dh made me go to the ER. The took a blood test that showed that I was pregnant but I knew at that point that it was all wrong, I even had to go through contractions. I did not have to get a D&C my body managed to pass everything. I was told to wait 3 cycles before trying again. Well then in May of 2004 I began to wonder if I was pregnant again so I took another test and this time I got a BFP. Needless to say I was excited, but that did not last for long, 30 minutes later I started bleeding. With the second one I had to get the D&C. My doctor told me that they do not usually do any testing unless you have had 3 or more. A couple of months later I was talking to my cousin about everything and she told me about PCOS, she said that it sounded like I had a lot of the symptons (she also has it). I went to a doctor and asked about it and the frist dr told me that I needed to lose 80 lbs and that PCOS is just a diagnosis that dr's give when they can not think of anything else. So I went to a different dr that did the testing and stated that I do in fact have PCOS and I have IR, so I was put on Metformin 1500 mg a day in Oct of 2006 and have not been pregnant since my last miscarriage. My sister0in-laws and cousins have since had children, and all I can think is "When is it my turn?"

Hello. I don't normally post on this board, so I guess I'm a newbie to. I have PCOS as well. I don't get my period on my own. I don't ovulate either so I have to do IVF to get pregnant. I went through three IVF cycles then got pregnant with my miracle baby who was born at 27 weeks. I have done a frozen cycle and got pregnant on the third try. I had a miscarriage in Jan. at six weeks. I took a few months off and just started a fresh cycle. After 15 days of being on meds they pulled the plug. The doctor called yestderday and told me that I need to loose weight before I try again. I have been doing weight watchers since my miscarriage. I lost some weight but then it just stopped coming off. I a really upset right now. I am going to make an appoitment for an obestity clinic, to find out what my options may be. It is good to see that you can get pregnant on your own. Have they done any test to see why you miscarry or are they just saying it is because you have PCOS. Are you doing any kind of particular diet to lose weight? I started the Metformin in Jan as well. Well I am glad that I can find people to talk to on this board.

I was told by the dr that I needed to lose 30 lbs and I went on weight watchers and lost the 30 lbs, but I have since gained about 10 lbs back. I know that I have to start it again, soon.

Hi, Robin and Haley. Welcome to the board. The board has been a bit slow lately, but I think you'll find many women here who may share your experiences, offer advice, and just be here for you to vent!

Robin: I just turned 27 as well. I'm so sorry that you've endured so much over the years. That was really rotten advice of the first doctor to tell you that PCOS was a "can't think of anything else" diagnosis. But, now you know and can move on with treatment, which is great. Has your doctor spoken to you about any other drug options to go along with the Metformin? Like Femara or Clomid? I started Metformin in October as well, and was to start Femara next cycle, but I ended up conceiving. I used a Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor to track if I was even ovulating. It was frustrating me not knowing what my body was doing.

Also, as Haley suggested, you may want to talk to your doctor about running some simple blood test to test for other factors that may be contributing to your miscarriages.

Haley: Glad you joined the board. I'm sorry about your miscarriage. I'm sure you know that one of PCOS' struggles is weight and making it difficult to shed the extra weight. Keep your chin up and keep trying. Anything you can do to better yourself is worth it. Keep us posted on your progress!

Hello ladies. I also don't normally post on this board, but I too have PCOS. I was on Metformin 1500 a day for about a year. I did get pregnant, but lost our first child last July. We then tried metformin with 50 mg of Clomid and on our 3rd try we got pregnant. When I was told that I had PCOS and that there was no cure for it AND it was going to be hard to get pregnant, I cried myself to sleep many nights. Having a child was all I wanted. I wish you a short journey to getting pregnant.
