Icon4 New here with lots of questions

HI!

I just found this site and hope to learn something.

I was told that I probably have PCOS after asking several doctors. I have never had regular periods, I have cysts on one ovary, am obese, have hair growing in strange places.

The dr. put me on the pill and have kept me on that for ten years, but won't talk to me about other meds.

I have a friend who just gave birth after over ten years of trying with PCOS. So, she has told me about her experience.

I'm getting married in June and want to start TTC ASAP. I'm 34 and he is 44 so we don't want to waste any time.

Should I see my dr. before the wedding? I will be moving to southeastern Louisiana after the wedding and my dr. is in MS. Are there any good Drs. in that area?

Should I be taking something for my insulin?

Why is it so hard to get doctors to discuss PCOS???

Thanks!

Hi,
I'm just a lurker on this board but I just wanted to say a few things. First I'd like to say that my doctor never thought anything of af not being regular. He said as I got older (by the way I'm 23) that af would become regular and there was nothing to worry about but it got more and more irregular. I changed doctors and the first test she did was a blood test that determined I had pcos and my regular doctor did an ultrasound which showed the "string of pearls" on my ovaries. I would really recommend seeing another doctor and let them know your situation so they can get the tests out of the way because I believe the doc's want you to wait a few months to ttc after getting off the pill. Since most women with pcos usually don't ovulate (and I'm one of them) on thier own I will taking clomid to help me ovualte and metformin which is supposed to help too. Most women with pcos take a combination of both medicines. Unfortuntely I'm on break this month but both my reg doc and my ob/gyn agreed that I shouldn't be taking any meds while I'm on break because they say it won't help me. Hope that helps.

Just wanted to say HI and Welcome to the board. Alot of DR's won't discuss it b/c not many know what causes it and how to "fix" it. I have been through 3 DR's and finally found one I like and who is excited about helping people with fertility problems. Good luck I am not from there!
