Hi Ladies,

Over the past year I have been floating from IVF, to OPK, to DID, to Miscarriage, and now I have arrived here. The quick run down is in my sig............I am very very cyst prone. I had them as a teenager, then when I was pregnant with my son....pretty much any time I am off BC or pregnant. During my miscarried pregnancy my doc found another cyst on my left ovary this time.

I had surgery in Feb 07 to remove a calcification and two cysts on my ovary along with a 1/3 wedge ressection. My doctor sent me for all bloodwork relating to PCOS, and determined that I am just polycystic, but my blood work showed no elevations that would warrant Metformin or Glucophage at the time. Also I ovulate, I got pregnant with my son in '03 with no problem.
But, the cycle I got pregnant, I used the Clearblue Easy Ovulation Monitor, It showed me ovulating on day 17/18, kind of late???? Is it true that late ovulators have an increased risk for miscarriage???

I go for my D&C followup this Thursday, and wonder should I mention that I want to try the metformin/clomid(i read on line that it helps for late ovulators)???? Or just try again on my own without any meds???? anyone have an experience similar to this???

Thanks, I look forward to chatting with you ladies!

Hi, Nicolette,

Welcome to the board! My bloodwork showed that I had no problems with my insulin, but I do have a fairly substantial case of PCOS. My doctor told me to try the Metformin anyway. They put me on it for a while and just checked my liver function to make sure it was not hurting me. I am still on it, 1500 mg daily.

I bought a CBEFM and got a peak reading on cd 28. I did ovulate, and conceived. Unfortunately, my doctor was not super encouraging at first because of the late ovulation. They told me late ovulations had about a 50/50 chance of miscarriage, because of "bad eggs". It scared me to death, and I'm still very nervous, but I'm doing great at this point. We found a heartbeat at 6.5 weeks, and the doctors couldn't be any more encouraging.

The point is, don't let the higher miscarriage risk scare you into not TTC on a cycle. I took that advice from some other girls on this board, and couldn't be happier. Good luck!!

Thanks so much for your response. It is encouraging to hear you say that about late ovulation. I am still going to bring it up to my doctor and see what she says about starting the metformin. Congrats on your pregnancy, i wish you a healthy and joyous one. It is such a miracle!
