Default Insurance

So I get a bill today for $925.50 for my HSG. I called the insurance company and they said they don't cover infertility (I already knew that). I try to explain to them that this wasn't just to diagnose infertility but also a part of testing for PCOS. I had the HSG about a month before I was diagnosed with PCOS and my regular OB/GYN was the one who ordered the HSG not my RE. Who should I call to get more help--my RE or my OB/GYN?

Unfortunately, your insurance company may not cover the HSG because it does have to do with infertility, not PCOS. Most women with PCOS will have the procedure done because it is one of the only ways to check to see if your tubes are blocked or not. You could try to talk to the doctor who ordered you to have the HSG and see if there is anything they can do, but it may not do any good.

When I first started going to an RE, she wanted me to have an HSG done. The insurance would only cover it if it was done in her office, not at the hospital. My insurance at that time did not cover infertility once I was diagnosed with PCOS.

Good luck and I hope you get the insurance issue resolved.

Thanks. I talked to my RE and she said the same thing--since PCOS deals with OVARIES and HSG deals with TUBES, I'm stuck with the bill

Insurance companies suck! Sorry you are stuck with the bill, but hopefully the test helped you out some.

That's stinks. Was that the hospital bill or doctor bill? This IF crap can really add up even with the diagnostic coverage that I have.
