Default Glucophage - improves egg growth?

Hi - I usually post on the IVF board, but was told that this is a good place to post my question. I'm wondering what you can tell me about Glucophage XR. My RE put me on it to improve egg growth. I'm starting on 500mg a day and moving up to 1000mg within the next day or two. Any info about it you can tell me would be appreciated!

Thanks,

I have not heard anything about Glucophage improving egg growth, it's used more to help regulate your cycles. I always thought that clomid was more for the egg growth, but I could be wrong since I'm not a doctor.

I was just lurking over here.....when I did my 1st IVF the RE put me on Glucophage because he said that it helps people with PCOS decrease the chance of miscarriage...after we found out that the cycle did not work the RE blamed the glucophage saying that he thought that is actually caused the follicles to grow slower..so next cycle will be without the metfoormin (glucophage)...HTH

I don't know about that either but I was told Clomid just helped to release the egg. A friend of mine took Glu. and was pg within 2 months. GOOD LUCK!!

Default Re: Glucophage - improves egg growth?

the reason gluc could possibly help is because gluc reduces the excess sugars running around in your system... excess sugars running around in your system can wreck havoc on everything in your body, from your eggs to your blood vessels in your eyes (why diabetics have eye issues) and so forth... so the thought is to lower the sugar and help with that because the excess sugar can also be related to the excess androgens that most of us PCOSers have running around in our bodies, which is also harmful to the eggs...

HTH!

Thanks so much for the help! I go in tomorrow for my baseline u/s and I'm hoping my estrogen level is low enough to start injections.

Patty, slowing down the egg growth might be a reason why my RE wants me to take Glucophage, because the first IVF for me my eggs grew way too fast and I had to coast - my estrogen level skyrocketed too and we almost had to cancel the cycle.

I appreciate all of your input.
