Icon9 Don't know what to do...

I'm on 1500mg Metformin XR.

50mg Clomid - No Ovulation.
100mg Clomid - No Ovulation.
150mg Clomid - No Ovulation.

Now what? Injectibles plus monitoring is WAY expensive!

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I want a baby, but the costs are overwhelming...

I can understand your frustration. I moved onto ivf and pay out of pocket for it. I wanted to suggest something that you could ask about. Let me give you a very brief history first.

My clomid cycles were unpredictable when I started gluc 1500mg. I was ovulating 50% of the time with the combo and had to increase my dose each time. I don't ovulate without help, but I seemed to have done better without the gluc/clomid combo. I had one failed ivf on gluc and then one failed one off it. I took a break for additional testing and by this time my regular endocrinologist (he treats my thryoid) put me on 30 mg of Actos in the spring in addition to the 2000mg of gluc. since I had 2 failed ivf's.

Present day- I had a medicated follistim/clomid combo in the summer for a test I needed, but since then I've had regular cycles. A little on the long side at about 34 days, yet regular. I assumed the first one off meds was just a fluke since can be normal after stimming like that, but then I kept having cycles. I'm not certain about this month though, but I've had 4-5 cycles which is a miracle.

It's something you may want to ask about. I'm not sure what type of doctor would rx it though. My RE originally rx'd the gluc, however, I switched that over to my Endo since he's the specialist in that area and I was already seeing him for my thyroid.

I hope you can find something that works. I'm hoping Actos is my miracle drug for my last ivf. I don't think there are any s/e's typically for it, unlike gluc/met.

Oh, I also wanted to mention that it could just take your body a few more months to be affected by the meds.

There's not really much I could add to what Nancy has suggested, other than maybe seeing if Femara will help you and possibly getting your metformin dose up to 2000mg. Some of the ladies have tried it and it's worked for them. It's hard to say with PCOS what meds will work with what women, since we all seem to react differently to them.

Hopefully you and your doctor will be able to find something that'll work for you. Keep in mind, like Nancy said, that it can take a couple of months for the meds to work.

Good Luck

I was having the same problem. But once they changed my Gluc docage to 2000mg and switched me from clomid to Femara.. Bam.. 3 cycles and I was Pg.. Carried to term after 3 years of unsuccessful other meds.

I understand your frustruation. Keep trying though.. It will all work out in the end!
