Default Bad News

Well I had one small follie on the right side but it was tiny. I had nothing on the left. The nurse is going to speak with the RE to see what our plan should be for the next cycles. She talked about injectables, surgery to unblock the tube, but the problem would be how long would it stay open. They also did some blood work to see if I am insilin resistant so then I can start the metamophin (sp) or glufagine(sp). What does it mean to be insiline resistant. I just wanted to check in and let you know what happened.

Hello...
I was just lurking and saw no one had responded to your post yet so thought I'd offer my 2 cents (I have PCOS and insulin resistance as well). Anyways, in response to your insulin resistance(IR) question, IR is a problem where your body doesn't respond to the insulin in the right way causing your body to produce too much insulin. That's the simplified version. Metformin and Glucophage are the same med...one is generic, one isn't. A lot of women who have IR or PCOS get PG on this med. without any other intervention. Gluc/Met does cause some bathroom problems, but they usually are worked out after taking the med for a while or adjusting your dose. Good luck and I hope that your RE figures this out for you.

Hi there,

Just wanted to let you know that met worked wonders for me when I started taking it in Jan2003. It made me O on my own (for the first time in a decade), 3 months in a row and then we added clomid and bang!! Conceived our son. I had very unpredictable results with just clomid and the met really helped sensitize me in the beginning...

Good-luck!

Sunny

Hiya, I don't no much about IR and am very interested. I only discover I had pcos about 3 weeks ago but my Dr didn't say anything about IR. Would she have known from the b/w or wud she have had to do more tests? Should I go back and find out because she didn't suggest gluc or met? I'm very confused....

I was diagnosed with IR in January and am currently taking Metformin. I had to have my insulin levels tested after eating abig breakfast. Two hours later they took blood. Then I had to to the 3 hour GTT with the inuslin levels tested again...this time with fasting. Ugh! That was how they diagnosed me with IR. My medicine worked rather well for about the first 3-4 weeks and now I feel the same as I did before so my doctor will most likely increase my Metformin when I see her next month. I go the end of the month to have another Insulin level test done.

If you have PCOS I would think your doctor would want to chek to see if you also are IR. You might want to mention it to him/her.

Your DR should check to see if you are IR. I am glad everyone posted. I am sorry I have been busy with work, and had the inlaws up last weekend. Basically they are going to check to see if you are to see which meds to start you on. Good luck and keep us updated.
