Default Avandia vs glucophage

Hi! I've been diagnosed with insulin resistance. Unfortunately I am unable to take glucophage because I have a real sensitive stomach. I have been TTC for about 4mos. I haven't ovulated yet. My OBGYN just put me on Avandia. She said that we would try the 4mg but we could go to 8mg if we need to. She wasn't very familiar with Avandia but she thinks that the appropriate dose to help resume ovulation is 4 mg. She will be meeting with an endo. sometime in March.
Is anyone here familiar with Avandia? If I should be taking 8mg I'd rather start now instead of later. Just curious.

Whenever AF arrives I'll add some clomid too.

Default Re: Avandia vs glucophage

I don't have any experience with Avandia, however, I am on Actos (along with Gluc.) I did a quick search on Avandia and it looks like it's similar to Actos.

Here's the link. Actos and Avandia

It looks like 8mg is the highest amount one is given. I'm on 30mg of Actos and my Endo. said there's no advantage for me to go with 45mg since 30 seemed to work. I'd probably start with the lower dose and move up if needed.

As far as gluc. did you try the extended release? I've taken gluc. 2 different time periods. The first time it was 1000-1500 mg and I didn't ovulate. The second time I did 2000 and still didn't ovulate. About 4 months later we added Actos and about 2-3 months after that I started having cycles for the first time in my life.

Good luck and I hope Avandia is just what you need!!
