Anyone here ever had back surgery of any kind? Or know of someone who did?

I am most likely going to be having back surgery for a herniated disc that has cut into a nerve going to my right leg and left me in probably the most pain I can ever remember. I can't walk or move it without screaming in pain.
I got my heavy pain meds today (YUCK!) and MRI showed herniation progress. Now I have to meet with another neurosurgeon and go from there.

I am scared, scratch that. Terrified out of my mind.

Anyone been through this or know of someone who has?
I am so scared of having back surgery, especially with having 2 little ones at home!!!
