Icon14 Easy Way to Cut Up Fresh Pineapple via Alton Brown...

I didn't think it would work or be easy, but hey, if Alton Brown suggests it, I gotta try it!!!

I watched his "Down and Out in Paradise" a couple of days ago where he was supposedly stranded on a deserted island (ended up being Oahu ), and he said the easiest way to "carve" a pineapple is to take an electric knife to it. Well, I just bought a fresh pineapple at the grocery store today (craving fresh fruit ), and I decided to try it. My electric knife only gets used to carve a Turkey at Christmas, so I thought, why not?

It worked like a breeze!! Cut the ends off, slice the rind off, and then cut it when it's on its side, into rings. Then you cut the core out with a pastry ring (I don't have any, so I just used a knife), then slice into pieces. EASY AS PIE! Or PINEAPPLE pie! Took me about 5 minutes.

I've got to try that! I have a pineapple on my plant outside and when it's ripe, I'll have to try to use the electric knife on it. I started to watch that same episode tonight, but kids and dinner got in the way! I am sure it will be on again.
